A year ago, a manager said I didn’t need to do all the softening I do as a woman in tech… I agreed to try it his way for one year. Absolute disaster. I made it 7 months. And like, everyone got mad at me. So now I’ll go back to giving away credit and uptalk. Vocal fry anyone?

I mis-clicked on one of my 150 open tabs and it happened to be a tab that's been open since 2019 with a paper that has a solution to the exact research problem I've been puzzling over today. This is the moment I've been waiting for and I've decided to never close any tabs again

When I was 7, my teacher told us to write an article about “world cultures” for school over the weekend. I remembered it late on Sunday so in a panic I made up something called the "Icelandic Fish Festival", figuring said teacher wouldn’t know either way.

One thing I find puzzling with front-end discourse nowadays is that we mostly discuss how fast we can deliver bytes to people, but not so much what these bytes actually do/look/feel like and how we got them in the first place. Yes, this is a thread. 🧵

A lot of people in #devrel can relate to getting unwanted attention and harassment from just trying to do their job. At @sanity_io, we don't want it to be up to the individual to deal with the emotional stress this causes. But how to approach it? 🧵 sanity.io/blog/harm-reductio…

Honest tweet now. This account is run by NHS staff. There’s just 3 of us. We have tried our best to get out what is happening on the ground. But we are completely exhausted. If you support what we are doing please will you follow and RT this to your followers? Thank you 🙏🏻

Time to rethink the live coding interview for any company wanting to hire women, from underrepresented groups and those with performance anxiety. Don't take it from me. Take it from @cherthedev, @gurlcode, @erinfoox, and dozens of other engineers who shared the same in private.

Here is another old autochome I've restored for you, taken 111 years ago at the first Paris Air Show in September 1909. (It isn't colourised).

If you aren't terrified by climate breakdown, you don't understand its full irreversible implications. This is just the truth and there is a good reason to say it: So far we are not collectively scared enough to tear down the fossil fuel industry and that needs to change fast.

I’ve been enjoying this thread for hours. Real throwback stuff.
oh easily the husk. two or three hundred feet tall, appeared for like a month every summer over the Empire state building. so much fun kneeling under it with my friends eyes rolling back into my head but kids these days would rather watch tiktok than worship the husk

In short: if you're a software developer and want to improve things, here's what you can do: 1. Find an org doing work you believe in 2. Say "I'm a software dev and want to volunteer, how can I help you?" 3. Listen. And that's how tech can fix the world's problems. Fin.

I’ll bite. Let me fix this for you: Want more women on your dev team? Invest more in training. Train your current employees on their biases. Teach them how to make space, share power, and be allies to underrepresented groups.

There's "technical debt", and then there are decisions you make the morning of the release date that can only be described as 9000% APR technical payday loans
