I started working on this piece ten years ago, as a teachers' union lawyer during the height of Recession-era critiques of public sector unionism. I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested. I'm very happy to announce it's now officially forthcoming in the Yale Law Journal.

NEW: The future of work debate has overlooked one of employment's greatest strengths: its ability to build trust, cooperation, and social connection.
In a new brief, @dianareddy makes the case for preserving and strengthening employment as a social institution. 🧵

@dianareddy asks whether there might be a third way to theorize the future of work.
Friends, fav e-ink tablets for academic work? Priorities are simple learning curve, easy to sync across devices, ability to handwrite notes directly on docs (& ideally convert those notes to typed text that can be searched), & natural writing feel without lag. Halp? #AcademicTech
Ok I felt touched when I saw this post -- our media team is so affirming!

1Ls at most law schools recently received their grades. If you're one of them, and you're disappointed in how it went, please know it's absolutely possible to raise your grades—sometimes substantially—in future semesters. Fall 1L grades are not destiny.
PSA: If you're listening to an Work Law related article, being read aloud by an app, and you're wondering why there's so much talk of sea bass...the word may, in fact, be CBAs. No guarantees, but worth considering.
For better or worse, nothing I do will ever be more impressive to my mom than this early accomplishment. #MomLove

Statement from AFL President Liz Shuler reflects the ambivalence of organized labor toward Trump's labor sec nominee.

"The Perils of Relevance" or "Relitigating the New Deal" for the title of a short article contextualizing recent employer lawsuits claiming that the @NLRB is unconstitutional?#PleaseChooseMyTitle #LawTwitter
New piece w/ Roosevelt on "the deossification of labor politics." I discuss the accomplishments of the current @NLRBGC & @NLRB & if we were all wrong about American labor law. TL;DR The #NLRA is imperfect but it can accomplish a lot for #workers and their #unions when we let it.
🆕: Increased worker mobilization and public support for unions have enabled the NLRB to do exactly what they should be doing—making our labor law work for workers.

(Also this piece was originally going to come out tomorrow but I told them that just wouldn't work bc I'd be in an Ursula the unfairly treated sea witch/maven of #Contracts costume (#TheLittleMermaid) and running around all over the place)
