What does “enough” mean to me right now?
Is it about setting cleaner boundaries?
Letting go of what no longer serves me?
Or gently reclaiming my energy?
Join us Sunday at 6pCST/7pEST for a very special Sunday Sober Social. Our friend @FamousInMyPhone will be giving his testimony, and of course we will have a lively discussion on experience, strength and hope.

💜 EMOTIONAL SOBRIETY
Learning to Live Life on Life’s Terms
Opening Thought
Getting sober changes our lives, but emotional sobriety changes how we live them.
Many of us came into recovery believing that if we stopped drinking, everything would eventually fall into place. We thought the anxiety would disappear, the anger would fade, relationships would heal, and life would finally become manageable.
But sometimes we discover that although we have put down the bottle, we are still carrying the same fears, resentments, insecurities, and unhealthy patterns that made life difficult before.
We can be sober and still struggle with anger. We can be sober and still seek approval. We can be sober and still allow other people’s actions to determine our happiness.
Emotional sobriety is learning to respond to life rather than constantly reacting to it. It’s learning that we cannot control everything that happens to us, but we can work on how we respond.
It doesn’t mean we never get angry, hurt, disappointed, or afraid. It means we learn to experience those feelings without allowing them to control our decisions or threaten our recovery.
We don’t have to be perfect. We just have to be willing to keep growing.
💭 Discussion Questions
1. What does emotional sobriety mean to you?
Has your understanding of sobriety changed since you first came into AA?
2. Can we be sober without being emotionally healthy?
Have you ever found yourself not drinking but still struggling with the same attitudes or behaviors you had before recovery?
3. How do you handle emotions that once drove you to drink?
When anger, sadness, loneliness, or fear shows up, what tools help you work through those feelings today?
4. How much of your happiness depends on other people?
Do you find yourself becoming upset when people don’t behave the way you think they should? How are you learning to let go of those expectations?
5. What role do resentment and forgiveness play in emotional sobriety?
How can we begin to release resentment without pretending that someone else’s behavior was acceptable?
6. Do you react or respond?
When someone hurts, frustrates, or disappoints you, can you pause before responding? What has recovery taught you about that pause?
7. Are you seeking peace or seeking control?
How much energy do you spend trying to control situations, relationships, or outcomes that are beyond your control?
8. Can you be happy for others while still working through your own struggles?
How do comparison, jealousy, or feelings of inadequacy affect your emotional well-being?
9. How do you know when you are emotionally struggling?
What warning signs tell you that you may need to reach out to your sponsor, attend a meeting, revisit the Steps, or ask for help?
10. What does emotional growth look like in your everyday life?
What is one way you handle difficult situations differently today than you did before recovery?
🌱 A Challenge for the Group
This week, when something upsets you, try asking yourself three questions before reacting:
What am I feeling? Identify the emotion instead of immediately acting on it.
What is within my control? Separate your choices from someone else’s behavior.
What would a healthy response look like? Consider what aligns with your recovery and the person you want to become.
You don’t have to get it right every time. The goal is to become more aware, more willing, and more capable of choosing your response.

What if the most powerful love language is not found in grand gestures…
it is the right words spoken at the right moment.
Listening is a practice of mindful attention,
of meeting another’s words without resistance.
Silence becomes a gift.

“She’s a victim, but that doesn’t make her a good person — it turned her into a monster”
Emmy Rossum, aka, Fiona from Shameless stars in Hulu’s Furious where she tracks a sexy serial killer - the series is completely out, so you can binge the whole thing, but honestly, the subject matter is rough, so I had to take breaks -
It’s hard not to root for Lola Petticrew- and is just me, or does her name seem straight out of Harry Potter

It happens when the body finally feels safe to receive.
