Never thought I'd have a book reviewed in the @nytimes! All the sweeter, as a sociologist, to see the reviewer praising my "exhaustively researched chapters" and "wry eye and ear for the key role that status plays in these confabulations." @fsgbooks

There are important critiques to be made about the evils of technology, but I do appreciate that I can ask "What is the 'hateration holleration' song?" and have it playing on my Alexa in 10 seconds.
Find someone who holds onto you as tightly as ScholarOne Manuscripts holds on to my forgotten username and password.
This week, I did a Q&A with @voxdotcom about reality TV, influencing, MAGA politics, and that infamous Vanity Fair photoshoot.

So glad I can finally participate in the time-honored tradition of staying up late to help my kid with a family tree project for school because she just told me about it now! 🌳
I was recently interviewed by USA Today about the connection between reality TV and politics. You can check out the piece here! @USATODAY

Recipe prep times should include the amount of time it takes you to go to the store and buy all of that crap.
I will not be accepting rebuttals.
It's the most wonderful time of the year! I'm VERY excited about the slate of final presentations for my "Sex & Gender in Reality TV" class.
Today I asked my Princeton students if DJ Bob still comes to the eating clubs, and they looked at me uncomprehendingly, with no idea who that was. Then I shriveled up into a ball of ash. @Princeton
Me: "Good night. I love you!"
4-year-old: "Mom?"
Me, snuggling close: "What is it, sweetie?"
4-year-old: "A 'Poop Car Wash' is when a bird poops on your car, so you take it to the car wash, but then a bird poops on your car again."
🤷♀️😂🦜🚗💩
11-year-old: "I volunteered to bring in cider for one of my clubs this week."
Me: "Which club?"
11-year-old: "I forget."
Me: "Um, okay, what day do you need it?"
11-year-old: "I'm not sure..."
Me: "Umm..."
11-year-old: "It'll work out. Trust the process!"
😂😭🤷♀️
It was a pleasure speaking to the folks on the Mental Health Supra Omnia podcast (including my childhood friend Erika Kawamura!) about America's obsession with reality TV.

The cool thing about having a mom is that you can count on her to send you a photo of a clipping of an article about sewage commissioner drama in a town where you have not lived for 27 years.
4-year-old: "Mom, can you get the F out?"
Me: "Excuse me???"
4-year-old: "Can you get the F out? I want you to get the F out!"
Me: "WHAT?!... Oh."
Things you find yourself hollering at your kids: "I said 'Get your PJs on,' not, 'Put the lizard in a costume'!"
How come my toddler turns into Elton from Clueless every night at bedtime? "I need another glass of water." "My foot hurts." "I can't find my Cranberries CD. I have to go to the quad before somebody snags it."
Me: Okay, it's time to turn off the TV and brush your teeth.
4-year-old: You're hurting my feelings right now.
🤷♀️🤔
I've been interviewed a few times in my career, but having a production crew in my house today was definitely a first! 😬
Cool to see my students' Real Housewives taglines make it onto the @Princeton social media feed!
