GOOD JOB, ABBOTT. WE LOST TEXAS. GINA HINOJOSA HAS DEFEATED GREG ABBOTT. For the first time in 36 years, Texas has elected a Democrat as governor. The last time this happened was in 1990, when Ann Richards won. Let that sink in. After more than three decades of Republican governors, here we are. And I’ve got a whole lot to say about Greg Abbott. I’ve said for a long time that I believe Abbott was a horrible governor. That’s why I voted for Pete “Doc” Chambers in the Republican primary. I wanted somebody different running this state. But when Abbott became our nominee, we got behind him anyway. We knew what was at stake, and we sure didn’t want to see Texas handed over to the Democrats. Well, look where that got us. This is a governor who had years to address the problems facing Texans. Property taxes, the cost of living, the power grid, and one political fight after another. He pushed his billion-dollar school voucher program while ordinary Texans were still worried about paying their bills. And let’s talk about the money behind Abbott. One of his biggest financial backers was S. Javaid Anwar, the Midland oil executive who poured millions into Abbott’s political operation. Abbott also appointed Anwar to a state higher education board. You can decide for yourself what you think about those political relationships. I’ve had my own concerns about this governor for years. There are other decisions Abbott made that I strongly disagreed with, especially when it comes to issues important to Christians. And with the way Facebook handles certain conversations, I’m not going to get into all of them here. But here’s what I will say. Abbott had the money. He had the name recognition. He had three terms in the governor’s office, an enormous political operation, and years to make his case to the people of Texas. And he still lost to Gina Hinojosa. This isn’t some little local election we can shrug off. We’re talking about the governor’s mansion in TEXAS. Greg Abbott didn’t just lose an election. He presided over the end of a Republican hold on the governor’s office that lasted more than 30 years. Good job, Abbott. You had years to lead this state, and now somebody else is going to lead it. And the people of Texas are the ones who will have to live with what comes next. #TexasPolitics #GregAbbott #TexasElection
