Want to run a marathon?
You need a ton of "time on feet". In endurance training we call that "volume". If you don't want to feel like death at the finish you need to invest several hours per week training.
Don't make this training mistake.
Get your volume

I don't want to live in a society where men blame women for their problems.
That's just so weak.
These three books helped me make sense of the gym:
• Starting Strength
• Bigger Leaner Stronger
• Strength Training for Triathletes
Any others you would recommend to someone getting started with strength training?
Nobody needs to run a marathon.
The time needed to train is very high. If you have a full time job, young kids at home, etc. your life is super full. A marathon is probably a mistake.
Invest time in your health.
But set goals that actually fit your lifestyle.

About 1 in 4 children in America live in a home without a father.
Fatherlessness leads to:
• More poverty
• Lower education
• Worse mental health
• More kids in juvenile detention
Single guys, one of the best things you can do for society is marry a single mom.

This is one of the big mistakes I made running my last marathon.

Trust your training
Results take time to develop. If your following good training principles you should see results overtime.
Give yourself a long enough time horizon to see results.
Months not weeks.
Years not months.

One of the most important tools in adulthood no one talks enough about is the meal plan. So much stress in family life goes into answer the question "what's for dinner?". With just a little planning you get rid of that nightly decision and gain delicious home cooking.

When I started strength training, I had no idea what I was doing.
Picking a simple routine like 5x5 really helped me get comfortable, build confidence, learn the basics and get stronger.

Everyday at lunch I check if we have something thawed for dinner, and if not take it out.
Also check if any dinner sides can be prepped (potatoes, rinsing rice, chopping veggies).
Bonus: having the @EnakFlavors lineup on hand makes it so easy to add variety each night.

Me trying to explain the hypostatic union to my son.
Me: No Jesus isn't half God half human. He's 100% human and 100% God.
Jesse: So he's 200% Jesus?
Made me laugh.

It might sound silly, but focusing on endurance training is one thing that helped me kick my alcohol habit the most.
