did a few bike sprints after leg day today. my cardio for the last ~year has just been 10 miles of zone 2 every week forever. missing out on whole categories of gains here not doing HIIT

3 hours into frobenius algebras and chill and claude be like "sheaf of portfolios over a tree of refinements" sheaves are everywhere for those with eyes to see
43
just a regular night hunting for frobenius algebras in the wild

remember, if a supplement doesn't work, keep spending money buying it from new suppliers over and over for years and combining it with a million other variables until it does work

my amino acid and protein ice cream addictions have merged into one unholy mega-addiction

added garhammer raises to my ab routine recently. never felt lower abs burn so much. great exercise

the W's for learning stat mech will never cease to accumulate
very convinced that swarm engineering is much closer to statistical mechanics than traditional software engineering. you can build the harness and define how an agent interacts, but what you're really trying to engineer is the collective behavior of the swarm. locally, you're dealing with agent communication, memory, selection pressure, resource allocation, and feedback loops. globally, it's correlations, entropy, phase transitions, and collective convergence. if you couple the agents too tightly, you get a giant echo chamber. and if done too loosely, you get something too noisy.

holy SHIT here is my sleep data since i started on lemborexant at the beginning of october. its from a garmin watch from 2019 so its not great data, but the trend is undeniable and gigantic. lemborexant is also supposed to improve over the first several weeks you take it. you see my sleep score stabilizing towards the end of october. like holy shittt. - 13% higher average sleep scores compared with the three weeks before initiation - 17% higher scores during the most recent two weeks compared with that baseline - 21 additional minutes of sleep per night. - four-bpm reduction in resting heart rate between the four-week periods - 21% greater overnight "body battery" recharge quick gotta post this before it makes me pass out lemoborexant is amazing

Damn berberine really does demolish sugar cravings. Surrounded by candy and have no interest. Also comes with a minor mood boost? I've had this stuff in my cabinet for over a year, been sleeping on it!

ive vibe coded like a dozen mediocre flag games this year but the RTS-roguelike-esque one based on quantum quasicrystal dynamics has finally stuck and the other high vexillomancers have joined in the vibe coding and FLAGHACK∞3D will soon be unleashed

ive spent the last 5 days helping my partner recover from a major surgery. its been much easier than expected because they are so strong and muscular that theyve been able to e.g. put socks on unassisted on day 4 rather than after 2-3 weeks. unexpected benefits of strength lifestyle

reminds me of how barry simon went from studying extremely difficult questions in quantum field theory like rigorous phase transitions and then made a home in 1D quantum mechanics and orthogonal polynomials on the circle
One thing I noticed at the gym that applies almost everywhere is that the beginner is doing the basics to get better, the average lifter is doing some complicated, esoteric variation while looking a lot like the beginner, and the strongest person in the room is doing the same basic movements as the beginner. It works this way in most fields. You start with the basics, wander off into complexity, then come back to what's simple and proven, because the simplest approach usually gets the best results. That's true in research, training, investing, and probably life, where we optimize around a pile of things that don't matter and forget that what makes us human is raising a family and chasing the unknown

this puzzled me deeply when i first studied his research trajectory as an undergrad

the math buddha taught: “should one persuade even a single sentient being to listen to an explanation of sheaf theory, the merit accrued shall be immeasurable. their local virtues shall glue into a global section, their higher cohomology shall vanish, and they shall attain enlightenment upon every sufficiently fine open cover.”

3 weeks away from the gym due to deadlift injury and happy to discover that i havent lost any strength. never gonna squat or deadlift without a belt again. not worth it for me. i came to this conclusion with my first run with weightlifting from 2013-2020 but i guess i had to relearn it

i bashed my right knee into a trailer hitch in the spring and bashed my left knee into a trailer hitch receiver in the summer. there's some kind of symbolism here. what blessing will grace my right elbow this fall?
