Following the stripping of power of the Venezuelan legislature in 2016, President @realDonaldTrump imposed U.S. sanctions against 8 Venezuelan Supreme Court judges, including court president Maikel Moreno, who helped Maduro neutralize an elected legislature.
Treasury’s explained their rulings had “usurped the authority of Venezuela’s democratically elected legislature.” The OFAC announcement noted that the judges allowed Maduro to bypass parliamentary budget approval, renewed emergency powers in place of the Assembly, appointed electoral officials whose selection belonged to Congress, and declared parliamentary acts void. In March 2017, the court went further, stripping parliamentary immunity and assuming legislative powers.
Judicial office did not shield them from individual accountability for helping dismantle constitutional government.

🇧🇷 Ladies and gentlemen, if the speculation on the just released TSE reports are indeed true, then we have to say that, um, we may have correctly predicted the second turn down to the raw votes after all, just like we did the first turn. We are not jumping to conclusions, as we are launching our own investigation. We usually don’t do this for democratic countries, but our prediction was so off this cycle that suspicious arose within our team. That suspicion dramatically increased when the same methodology of ours just correctly predicted the Israeli Election.

As contestações do segundo turno das eleições começam a tomar corpo.
Os advogados Paulo Faria (@drpaulofaria22) e Filipe de Oliveira (@flyprockusa) protocolaram na Procuradoria-Geral Eleitoral uma representação para pedir o reconhecimento da nulidade do segundo turno presidencial de 25 de outubro.
O argumento principal repousa na mudança das regras do pleito quando milhares de urnas já estavam fechadas. Os advogados citam o artigo 224 do Código Eleitoral, que prevê nova eleição presidencial quando uma nulidade alcança mais da metade dos votos do país.

Here's Trump making clear that he does not intend to back Bolsonaro's now-deleted claim that he is the "true president-elect of Brazil." When I called around in the US Govt to try to understand why that statement was issued, nobody understood it:
It seems as Flavio Bolsonaro and his allies just deleted that statement in which Flavio declared himself "the true president-elect of Brazil," and then re-posted the letter without that declaration.
I had just spent 30 minutes speaking to everyone I could trying to understand how it made any sense at all to make this claim -- either in general or the way they did it: so impulsively and suddenly, with no groundwork laid for it -- and nobody could make sense of it. So it seems wise that they removed it.
