Most arguments are not about disagreements over value. They are frustrated disagreements over which currency to use.

Pretty amazing to see what is uncovered when you lower the barriers to intelligence. How much stability was contingent on a limited frequency of people being able to do a thing. Emphasis on limited.

Had I known math was exclusively human performance art, I’m not sure I would have been as interested in it.

30 years ago in a philosophy class we had a debate about AI. Our opponent’s focus was on whether it was possible. They argued it wasn’t. Our take was to assume it is and focus on what that meant. The current argument about consciousness reminds me of that frustrating day.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. Those of use who also wish to consider where it can’t from before we cast judgement 👍 Those of us who don’t care where it came from. Also 👍
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

A very clean example of a pattern repeating at many scales and in many venues. The capacity to produce intelligence and the capacity of humans to absorb it may have been closer to balance than we thought. RSI will be all they have to grow into.

This is why service jobs are going to 🚀. The barriers that separated the noticers from doers are eroding. The doers will have more things on their lists of todos. Likely already backlogged. Back up from robots will take a while. And exhaust noticers requests never.
I’m slowly cleaning up the suburbs with Muse. Saw this mess of wires on a pole. Took a picture and asked Muse to contact Verizon to get them cleaned up. It went to their website and got to work. There is a 0% chance I would’ve sat in a Verizon support chat over this. I would’ve just been mildly annoyed every time I walked past it for the next five years. “Someone should do something about that” is now a prompt. 🤝 @alexandr_wang

On the “physics/mathematics is cooked” narrative some seem positively horny to advance the second a new result surfaces: We will always need people who understand the significance of discoveries. SWE, Mathematics, Physics is not cooked More accessible does not mean done.

The whole world is about to see the complex interplay between mathematical understanding and the understanding of interacting things -that has always been there just slowly grown- in a way that will be interesting to more people.

A genie and its ‘alignment’ is only as good one’s ability to 1. Have aligned wishes AND 2. Articulate those wishes in a way that maintains the alignment

It would be interesting to live in a cloistered and safe environment where we could comfortably take our time savoring adiabatic reorganizations of society. (As he longingly looks out of the window of a fabricated set with a painted landscape)

Those with the most facility with the intelligences in areas that benefit from multiple intelligences wins. Same as it ever was.

Rehearsal takes discipline Generating experience does not necessarily require discipline. Both of these roads can produce similar outcomes.

If you know how basic what you want is. And you can glue those basic things together. And keep your head around it. You can do a lot with these new fangled tools.

People post amazing or even slightly interesting advance/observation 70% of replies: well why don’t you fix this other thing. I don’t think people know how hard it is to do something interesting. Or they are just resolved to be static in the landscape.

The legibility of the interaction surface is the challenge. Full stop. Everywhere.

Personally breaking the symmetry for me in the great paper towel over or under debate. The motion required to heal a miscalculated pull velocity. Under wins.

I think most humans have onboard evidence for this. All. The. Time.
people love to say that most of brain activity is unconscious with zero evidence

I don’t know if fable will be able to live up to the memory of our time together.
