Hospitals are a vital source of care in the community and have a unique mission that needs to be supported. Elective care centers also provide a valuable resource to the community. The problem is forcing these two entities to compete with one another. Their missions are fundamentally different. There is such a thing as ruinous competition.

Despite their “charitable” obligations, large health systems have plenty of money to do other things it seems. They are not squeaking by.

Millions of unvaccinated people came into the country and public health officials made nary a peep. After the COVID vax disaster, rather than public health authorities taking responsibility for the damage done to public trust, they decided to continue down the blame and shame approach causing even more damage. People are skeptical but they are still engaged right now. Dismissing concerns with pejorative language will not win the day. So we are seeing the net results of misguided public policy. This is going to take a much better approach going forward. Public trust will only return w full transparency and honesty. The people deserve to be treated w respect.

The press is there to give us the information we need to hold politicians accountable. Accountable to us, not themselves. When the referees start playing the game, it’s no longer a fair process. Not every news agency is in that room. There’s clearly a selection process to gain entry. Therefore, there’s no right to be there. I want them there. I want tough questions with appropriate follow up ones. I’d like Trump not to exclude major news outlets but I think they need to clean up their act.

Government funded healthcare is a budget problem, not a medical issue. They know doctors will put up with it because they don’t have any recourse.

The 1A did not create an entitled class of individuals who call themselves the press. They have no more rights than you or me. Lecturing or badgering the WH staff or president in the press room is advocacy and not reporting. The WH should have the discretion about tolerating such behavior. A free press is important. But like all freedoms, it also creates a responsibility. Be truthful. Be respectful to everyone else in the room. Ask tough questions. Editorialize as you please. But don’t push your own agenda at the podium. I didn’t vote for CNN, FOX, MSNOW, or any other news organization to represent me. I voted for the president.

I think there’s more to the issue. The press is not some magical entity in and of itself with special privileges of access. It serves the people by efficiently delivering information to us. They are there to listen and ask insightful questions to help us understand what is being proposed. They should be there and it is important that they are free to disagree in their editorial papers. Of late, they are badgering and lecturing the WH staff and effectively behaving as advocates. This not their role. I expect news agencies to report and critique but in good faith. Ask hard questions. Expect respectful answers. Stop hysterically reporting rumors and innuendo especially when it is obviously unverified. Opposition comes at the ballot box or with professed citizen grievances. The press is not there to lecture our representatives. It needs to stop.
