kinda funny, the thing actually slowing the binance hacker down is the most centralized stuff in crypto tether, circle, ripple all hitting freeze, like $2.4B stuck already ngl i've complained about that freeze button for years and today i'm kinda glad it exists
32
suspected binance hack, ~$2.77B pulled from hot wallets and binance still hasn't said anything tether already froze $971M of it, that was fast bnb down like 9%. gonna go check my cold wallet is still cold

what's a stock worth on a sunday? crypto kinda needs a real answer to that now chainlink just launched "24/7" pricing for stocks, commodities and other real world stuff, and aave signed on as the first big user. quick version: • tokenized stocks live on chains that never close, but chainlink's weekday feeds had a gap from 8pm ET friday to 8pm ET sunday, plus holidays • when markets are closed, the new feed pulls quotes from several perp futures venues, tosses stale ones and limits outliers • aave is using it on horizon, its institutional lending platform, to value tokenized US stocks used as collateral, starting with the big ones • chainlink says its weekday feeds already cover $1.6B+ in tokenized stocks the honest catch, and chainlink says it themselves: the weekend number is derivatives trading, not a real quote from the exchange. kamino went the other way this week, its oracle just holds friday's price until monday funny part, the nyse used to trade saturday mornings. it took a ten year fight to drop them in 1952. 70+ years of markets getting the weekend off and now crypto wants it back 😅 ngl i like this more than freezing the price. a lender that can't see a crash until monday isn't safer, it's just blind for two days. but getting liquidated at 3am sunday off a thin perp quote would feel awful. i dunno, i'd want to see one rough weekend before i fully trust it

coinbase just posted a $719M profit for Q3 revenue flat at $1.22B, most of that profit is their own crypto bag marked up same move as me checking my portfolio once and calling it income

~$2.6M drained from polymarket users through a hacked third-party monitoring script, trading paused contracts were fine, the extra code on the website wasn't. second frontend drain since june they say everyone gets paid back, still rough timing with kalshi raising at $40B the same morning

oct 29 1969, a ucla student tries to send "login" to a computer at stanford research institute over the brand new arpanet gets as far as "lo" and the whole thing crashes first message on what became the internet was basically an accident, kinda perfect

kalshi just raised $1B at a $40B valuation, nearly doubled in like 5 months the non-sports stuff alone is doing $1B+ a year people will bet on anything if you call it a market, me included ngl

HYPE +14% to ~$90 after NYSE owner ICE says it's building 24/7 US perps on Hyperliquid yesterday ICE was getting pushback on tokenized stocks, today it's borrowing a perp dex's rails wall street keeps saying no to crypto while quietly plugging into it

a 1981 donkey kong poster, literally mario's first public appearance, just became the most expensive piece of video game art ever sold. somebody back then probably thumbtacked it next to a pac-man machine. the whole value is being first and being provable, which is kinda what nfts were trying to bottle

that LA heist movie atm that pays out if you crack the pin has me doing math. a 4 digit pin is 10k guesses. a 12 word seed phrase is a number with like 39 digits. nobody's brute forcing your wallet, they're just gonna dm you asking for the words

bitcoin miners are slowly turning into AI landlords and ngl it kinda makes sense the thing they actually own isnt the rigs, its the power hookup. a site already wired into the grid is worth a lot to AI companies right now. some numbers from coinshares' latest mining report: • public miners have signed over $100B in AI and data center contracts • only about $1.1B of that is real yearly revenue so far. roughly 550 MW is billing out of 4+ GW promised • IREN's AI cloud revenue ($70.5M) passed its mining revenue ($66.7M) for the first time, and it plans to be mostly done with mining by end of year • building for bitcoin runs about $0.7M to $1M per megawatt, AI more like $8M to $15M. not a quick swap now the companies that served miners are following them. luxor just raised $16M to broker GPUs and trade compute contracts. it checked over half of the ~2 GW of miner sites it works with and most had the power and fiber for AI, but would need brand new buildings reminds me of sprint. southern pacific railroad ran phone and microwave lines along its tracks just to talk to its own trains. in the 70s it started selling the spare capacity and that grew into a whole long distance company. the tracks were never the only asset i honestly like it. miners already know how to find cheap power and survive ugly markets, thats a real skill. but $100B signed vs $1.1B billing is a big gap 😅 i dunno, id watch what actually gets switched on, not what gets announced

statue of liberty got dedicated oct 28 1886 copper skin is about as thick as two pennies, gustave eiffel did the iron skeleton inside she was shiny penny brown at first and took a couple decades to go green and office workers downtown threw ticker tape out the windows that day, first ticker tape parade

wall street isn't scared of tokens, it's scared of tokens it doesn't control. DTCC started minting tokenized stocks and treasuries today, same week jpmorgan and 32 other companies told OKXICE to keep theirs off its pools

half this list is just regular brokerages ngl. every app you ever signed up for has your number somewhere, crypto just gets the headline a separate email only for exchange stuff helps a lot. then anything "urgent" about your account landing in your main inbox is fake by default
4 data leaks reported today: 1. Coinbase's vendor Amplitude exposed some users’ contact data (funds unaffected). 2. Bithumb (Korea) had user data leaks. In TradFi, two securities firms in Korea leaked data: 3. Mirae Asset 4. Daishin Securities You can't prevent a leak, but you can protect yourself. Leaked exchange data (names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, ID documents, transaction history) is mostly used for phishing, SIM swapping, and social engineering. Reduce info you share - Use a unique email alias for each exchange (SimpleLogin, Apple Hide My Email, etc). A leak then can't be linked to your other accounts, and you can spot which service leaked. - Share only what's required. Don't add optional profile details. - Use a dedicated phone number (a VoIP or secondary SIM) for exchange accounts if you can, since leaked numbers are the main route to SIM swaps. Lock down the account - Use a unique, long password from a password manager. - Turn on hardware security keys (YubiKey) or passkeys, or at least an authenticator app. - Avoid SMS 2FA. - Enable withdrawal address whitelisting and a withdrawal time lock if the exchange offers them. - Set up an anti-phishing code, which puts a code you choose in every legitimate email from the exchange. - Review active sessions and API keys regularly. Delete any API keys you don't use. - Restrict API keys to withdraw-disabled and IP-whitelisted. Defend against - SIM swapping: Ask your carrier to add a port-out PIN or number lock. - Phishing and impersonation: Assume anyone who contacts you about your account, "security issues," or "refund recovery" is a scammer, even if they know your name, balance, or recent trades. - Exchange support staff don't ask for your password, 2FA codes, or seed phrase. - Never click links in emails or texts. Go to the site yourself. - "Wrench attacks": Leaked addresses plus holdings data have led to real-world extortion and robberies. Don't publicize your holdings, and keep large balances out of anything tied to your home address if you can. If a breach is announced 1. Change the exchange password and any other account that reused it. 2. Check haveibeenpwned.com for your email address. 3. Revoke API keys and active sessions. 4. Review recent withdrawals and security settings. 5. Watch for phishing emails and texts that reference the breach, because scammers move fast after one. Stay SAFU! 🙏

coinbase says it wasn't breached, it was amplitude, an analytics company they use, and some customers' contact info got out so funds are fine but expect scammy emails and calls that know your name. coinbase support will never call asking you to move coins to a "safe wallet". just hang up

still check my doodle pfp every morning like it owes me money it doesn't, it's just a cute little guy, and honestly that's enough some days

solflare's validator stopped earning staking rewards tonight, their staking provider had its keys hit your sol is fine tho. on solana the stake sits in your own stake account, the validator never holds it. worst case you miss some rewards for a bit they said an app update will handle the move, so nothing to do rn

usdc just passed usdt in europe. 56% of stablecoin trading against the euro goes through usdc now, per kaiko. back in jan 2024 it was like 10% neither coin really changed. the rules did. quick version: • the EU's MiCA rules want stablecoin issuers authorized, the grace period ended july 1 and tether never got authorized there • exchanges started restricting usdt for EEA users so the volume just walked over to usdc • usdc's euro order books are about 40% deeper than usdt's now • coinbase auto converts leftover usdt (and 13 other coins) for EEA retail users on oct 30 unless you withdraw first • globally usdt is still about 2.5x bigger by supply, so this is a europe thing for now kinda reminds me of US paper money in the 1850s. tons of banks printed their own notes and people carried little guidebooks just to know which ones were worth full value. then the national bank act in 1863 and a 10% tax on state bank notes a couple years later, and the weird ones mostly disappeared. one boring approved note won ngl i have mixed feelings. i like that regular people get a stablecoin where someone is actually checking the reserves. i also notice the most used stablecoin on earth just got shown the door on a whole continent. usdt still lives fine in defi over there, so it's more two lanes than a ban the US version of these rules starts kicking in 2027 and 2028. i dunno, feels like we're watching the trailer
