The outcome I would like to joke about this evening is that I develop a brain-emotions model, drawing on evolution, probability theory, lessons from psychoanalysis and psychiatry, that is so simple it is hard to imagine life without it.

Werner Herzog on psychoanalysis: “If you harshly light every last corner of a house, the house will be uninhabitable. It’s like that with your soul.” Only Herzog could make a metaphor about darkness sound this profound.

Elon Musk found us here. We’re indigenous to this land.
If people dislike Elon Musk so much, why do they still use the platform he owns?

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

Sadly, the only way to change a feeling is to feel it.

Incredible thread "What is particularly terrifying when this psychic structure falls apart is that the patient feels stalked by the darkest and most painful parts of themselves and their memories that they would much rather repress yet they cannot escape."
Interpretations are traditionally discouraged in decompensated patients in favor of more supportive interventions. I'm inching towards disagreement with this, at least sometimes. Some thoughts:

Dr Mary-Frances O'Connor describes grief as the process of attachment change. Without it, without the ability to change attachment, we'd be stuck forver attached to our first caregivers.

The reason I love everyone is because I don't like anyone and I'm always so confused why no-one recognises this.

Mum died two weeks ago, in the best possible circumstances with amazing care. I have this weird feeling today like I have expended all my gratitude and love for everyone involved and I'm ready for like ... fights 🤣
