What could cause rice cooked last night to spoil overnight, so that by this morning it has a bad taste and a slimy, stretchy texture?

One thing that can make data engineering confusing is figuring out how data should get into your destination.
Do you replace what's already there? Add new records? Update existing ones? Keep a history of changes? Or recover data from periods you missed?
These are five foundational data loading patterns worth understanding:
Full Load (Overwrite)
Append Loading
Incremental Loading with Upserts (MERGE)
SCD Type 2
Backfilling
Each solves a different problem, and knowing when to use them makes building reliable data pipelines much easier.
You don't have to learn everything at once. Start with the problem each one solves.
