Cuba's economy collapsed ONLY because of Communism and the greed of the PCC elites. The US government took its approach in part because they stole the assets of US citizens and of Cuban exiles. Since that time, many other nations have lent money to the regime that they haven't paid back. Others have commented that Mises himself said that you can't do business with Communists, and Cuba is perhaps the most extreme demonstration of why. The embargo is good from both an economic AND a moral angle, which is why most of the Cuban exile supports it.

This is communist propaganda. The Mises Insittute calls itself America First but it's really reflexively against anything the American government does whether good or bad. Here, to such a degree that it's defending Communist Cuba and repeating their talking points

This delights me so very much. People using AI to take back control of devices that they bought, but were covertly designed to spy on them and harvest their data. I'm usually reluctant to brandish my fame, but I'm gonna do it for this worthy cause. OG hacker says you're doing good! This kind of liberation is what it's all about.

It's hard to know if @dhh is naive or just driven by profit. Either way, he is going to find out what Google, Uber, Meta, and others have found out the hard way over the years. At best the CCP will breathe down his neck every step of the way.
With news that Omarchy is partnering with Alibaba to produce "Omarchy China" (which will bundle WeChat and other China-specific services), I reached out to Omarchy lead, @DHH, with some questions. Here are his answers. In full, and in context, without commentary. (Each question is separated into it's own part of the thread to make it easier.) Lunduke: "What is hoped to be gained [with Omarchy China]?" DHH: "China is an enormous country, with tens of millions of developers, and having their help improving open source is a huge boon to the entire world. It's also the center of the world for open-weight models. The Chinese understand the value of open source even better than the West. Because they've seen exactly what it means to be cut off from commercial suppliers. Europe in particular could learn a lot. But ultimately, this is about improving Linux for everyone. Most of these companies are part of the Linux Foundation as well. And many are prolific open source contributors."

Trying to please China never works, President Trump.
"On the diplomatic front, Lai has been unable to visit Latin America and the Caribbean — where the largest number of Taiwan’s allies are — because the Trump administration has refused to allow him to transit through the region as it pursues trade and other deals with China." ft.com/content/587f1f89-3bff…

Most web devs have seen websites where the frontend seems pretty and elegant but the backend is dogshit. I'd strongly suggest that you are seeing something similar in China today.

Maybe a reflection of the division of labor between Russia and China? 🐘Russia’s influence ops being oriented for conservatives/Christians/MAGA/white nationalists 🫏Chinese influence ops being oriented for liberals/progressives/leftists/Marxists
What's interesting is most of the botfarms on BlueSky are mostly Chinese. And the botfarms on X are almost entirely Russian.

Linus Torvalds is using Claude Code to make the Linux kernel faster. He’s published a development branch targeting a bottleneck when many threads make small reads from the same file. Claude Code helped write the code, create test programs, review the changes and draft the patch description, all under Linus’s direction. He ran the measurements on his own machine, with significant improvements in the targeted workload. These patches aren’t merged yet, and a place in Linux 7.4 is still unconfirmed. It's very important that we don't concede open source to socialists and communists. Capitalism is the greatest engine of growth and prosperity the world has ever seen. Open source is a great technique for aiding and accelerating it.
“Capitalism is the root cause of inequity in the creation & use of software.” So says the Software Freedom Conservancy’s Bradley Kuhn (previously Executive Director of the Free Software Foundation).

The problem is that many Spanish-dominant Hispanic Americans rely heavily on Spanish-language media for political news; and when that coverage presents an exaggerated or distorted picture of President Trump’s policies, there has to be an aggressive effort to push back in the same spaces where those narratives are being shaped. But the Trump administration decided it wasn’t necessary to have a dedicated White House operation consistently engaging Spanish-language media, while administration officials and surrogates appear almost daily across conservative media. That’s preaching to the choir. You don’t maintain a coalition, much less expand one, by speaking only to people who already agree with you. Republicans made major gains with Hispanic voters by competing in spaces that had traditionally been dominated by Democrats and making their case directly. Meanwhile, progressive and socialist voices continue appearing on Spanish-language networks while also increasingly entering conservative media spaces. They understand the long game: compete everywhere, challenge opposing narratives, and try to persuade people outside their base. Republicans should be doing the same! There is too much at stake to surrender entire media ecosystems. The administration needs its strongest communicators and surrogates everywhere (including Spanish-language media) pushing back, defending its record, maintaining the coalition that helped elect it, and continuing to compete for persuadable voters. You cannot win hearts and minds from inside an echo chamber. We have a country to save!

In 2007, a developer questioned why Git used C instead of C++. Linus Torvalds replied: "YOU are full of bullshit." "C++ is a horrible language." He added that keeping C++ programmers out would be reason enough to use C.

And the #StateDept continues to allow all these leftist Marxists to come into the US from communist Cuba. Then we wonder why we have groups like #DSA, #ANTIFA growing in the US! "Each scholarship provides a fund of $25,000 USD intended to foster "long-term professional development and artistic production". The #CINTAS Scholarships are monetary awards granted by the Cintas Foundation to support and recognize the careers of artists and creators of Cuban origin. The Left is very skilled at scholarships; they are the eternal students."
