Out now from @CambridgeUP: my book, Labor and the Class Idea in the United States and Canada. If you've been wondering what's behind union decline (and how to fix it), then check it out #labor #1u #classidea: cambridge.org/us/academic/su… – at South Pasadena, CA
Huge congratulations to @levesque_gab (Gabriel Lévesque) on the successful defence of his dissertation, “Structures of Latency: The Protraction of Regulatory Controversies Over Toxic Substances” at @mcgillu @McGillARTS this morning! 1/
It makes important contributions to political sociology, the sociology of knowledge, and the study of social movements.
It has been an honour and a pleasure to serve as Gabriel’s advisor, and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead for him. 5/
He has already started his Voss Postdoctoral Fellowship at @BrownUniversity , where he is working on a book manuscript. Stay tuned for more from this rising star!
(P.S. No, we did not coordinate our outfits, in case you were wondering) 6/end
The epitaph on my dad’s tombstone. It’s a maxim he lived by, and offers guidance to the rest of us. #10YearsAgo

Today, Brad Lander, rabbis, and other New Yorkers accompanied Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest. For that, they were detained by the Israeli government.
Harvesting olives is not illegal. The occupation is.
I am thankful that Brad has been released. But other New Yorkers remain detained, and they must be released immediately.
The same Israeli government detaining them has committed a horrific genocide against Palestinians, killing more than 74,000 people over the last few years alone.
The detention of these New Yorkers must end. The occupation must end. The genocide must end.
If you're in Montreal on Thursday, I'll be speaking @Concordia about "Solidarity is the New Collegiality: Faculty Confront the Corporate University." See link for more info. Hope to see some of you there!

Toujours un plaisir d’accueillir @carosenneville , présidente de la @laCSN , dans mon cours de sociologie du travail à @mcgillarts @mcgillu . 1/
It’s always a pleasure to welcome Caroline Senneville, president of the CSN (one of the three main Quebec labour confederations), to speak to my Sociology of Work and Industry class at McGill. 3/
The results are in, and the message is clear: with 87% turnout, 86% of @mcgillarts faculty and academic staff have voted to authorize our bargaining committee to call a strike if we have to. 1/

After more than a year of dragging their feet, it’s time for @mcgillu administration to come to the table and get serious about negotiating the contract we deserve.
Congrats to our Mobilization Committee on running a fantastic campaign to get this result! 2/

Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism! Public Safety Canada has described anti-Zionism as a form of antisemitism.
This sets a dangerous precedent for Palestinian rights.
Send an email to tell Canada’s Minister of Public Safety to retract this statement.
