is every conversation on here botted to be 50% more annoying or are people really just that obstinate and cynical about scoring clout now

also "I can't make that much because the economy is fucked" =/= "artists just don't deserve to be paid that that much" don't let the ruling class tell you your worth because I promise you they'd pay you $0 if they thought they could get away with it

if you don't like it, no one is making you buy it if you're jealous, charge more - it's better to have less clients at higher rates than more at lower rates stop tripping over each other to race to the bottom and make this industry worse for everyone

Some of you need to read this again
So an artist posted their personal commission prices, but you’re confused and maybe a bit ticked off because they “seem” high? Behold, a THREAD:

I'll just say it: if you think $4.5k/80 hrs for experienced work is too much, then dog-pile me too because: - I started making about that much in 2017 & have made more since 2019 - I've made up to $7k/2 wks i.e. 80 hrs in the past - right now I make over $5k/2 wks before bonuses
My illustrations take me a long time since I put lots of details into them. That peach drawing with bowser, Mario and the sushi took me more than 80 hours to complete. This baker peach took me more than 80 hours. I don’t understand why people are getting mad over my prices.

"I can't try to raise my prices what if nobody buys anymore" that's okay. don't. play it save. never find out. I'm not your mom. I'm not your financial advisor. keep working harder for less money or in the words of my favorite character

"my commissions are $150 and I am booked out for years I cannot accept any new ones sorry" damn, maybe if you offer them for $300 you'd only have to work half the time, and if you'd ask $1500 instead you'd have to work a tenth of the time for the same pay. much to think about

When I see artists who can sell comms for such a big price my first reflex is to sit down in front of my desk, take my pencil and work on my own lack of skill to reach their level of skill and demand thinking to myself "so it is possible"
When I hear about a peer making 5% more than me each week, I don't think "They're making too much," I think "Oh, I can ask for more next time." You're crazy for trying to lower their ceiling instead of trying to raise yours.

if you are a comms artist and you are scared clients might go away if you do this, try a simple trick. let's say your commission waitlist is 6+ months long. open a fast track lane. 30/50/100% more gets you up to the front of the line. see if people bite. you might be surprised

yeah, usually if the price on commissions is so low it is not enough to live on (duh); so they need to take on way more work than they can reasonably finish. hence all of these things like comms taking forever or the artist ghosting will happen
Replying to @elbowrocket
They also don’t even finish their queue and have the audacity to reopen commissions again while their long client list wait for months

There's so many artists out there who are getting blaring market signals that they can charge more but then don't because they've been socially conditioned to not value their work or time
