As winter approached, the meadow begged the goddess Flora for one more flower. She dipped her paintbrush in the violet tint of autumnβs twilight and cast its colour across the grass. There sprang to life that last joy of the dying year, the purple meadow-crocus. #FolkloreThursday

ALT Four images arranged in a collage. Top left: a meadow bordered by trees beneath a vivid pink, orange and violet twilight sky. Bottom left: a mass of pale purple crocuses in flower. Bottom centre: a close-up of a single purple crocus bud against a soft green background. Right: a 16th-century botanical illustration of the saffron crocus (Crocus sativus) by Gherardo Cibo, showing purple flowers, slender green leaves and an enlarged corm with spreading roots. Two women gather flowers in the mountainous landscape behind.

βOne leaf left on a branch
and not a sound of sadness
or despair. One leaf left
on a branch and no unhappiness.
One leaf left all by itself
in the air and it does not speak
of loneliness or death.
One leaf and it spends itself
in swaying mildly in the breeze.β

My advice to library Friends Groups and to all library users/supporters is to always support Library Workers, donβt get involved in any plans to widen volunteer involvement.
