The Orb I am drawn to the idea that ancient people may have imagined powerful objects that could connect them to superior beings or give them access to knowledge beyond their time. Although the orb in this work comes from that idea rather than a proven historical device, I wanted to explore what such an object might mean if it existed. Would it give us answers, or would it leave us with even more questions? As a self-portrait, this work also reflects my own curiosity as an artist. Photography allows me to create images of things that may not exist in the physical world, bringing together different ideas and turning them into something we can see. I enjoy using myself as the subject because it gives me the freedom to build a character around an idea and explore it through my own image. The Orb is a self-portrait inspired by the idea that humans may have once looked beyond themselves for knowledge, answers, and a better understanding of the world around them.
