“Wynonna Earp,” a sci-fi horror show about a demon-hunting descendant of Wyatt Earp, always seemed to be getting away with something — it felt too clever and too ridiculous to really be on television."
Beyond thrilled that #WynonnaEarp made the @nytimes best of 2021 list.

If you wanna last in Hollywood, you need a thick skin and a shorter memory. But there’s always one you don’t quite get over. 🫶🏼
"The Matrix" director says Hollywood has rejected all of her queer movie pitches:
"I’ve pitched a lot of wonderful, cool queer stories and trans stories, and Hollywood didn’t want any of it. There was this TV show based on this comic book 'Cosmoknights' that I was going to direct, and it was from me and Emily Andras, who made 'Wynonna Earp.' It’s 'Star Wars' with lesbians in space. Amy Poehler was producing it, and we pitched it all around town. We had a cool bible that Emily had written, and I put together a jazzy video for it, and everybody passed. We had this cool adaptation of 'Manhunt' by Gretchen Felker-Martin, which was a bestseller on all these top ten lists, and couldn’t get that going. This is around 2022, and now it’s four years later and I haven’t made a thing. I cannot find a studio that will do any of it."

[seeking investors]: so we've invented a machine that dilutes all of human creative endeavour, so that, someday soon, nothing will have the capacity to provoke wonder; that we hope will render every task futile and joyless; and the good news is, we also expect it to kill us all

At the panel Mel was reminded of a seriously ridiculous dad joke that Tim told early in season one to her and had him tell it to us.

Venice jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal questions the lack of female directors in competition:
“There’s a systemic problem. I do think it’s much harder for women to get their films financed. Could it be possible that the things women want to make movies about are not always deemed high art? Who decides what’s good? Who decides what’s valuable?” variety.com/2026/film/festiv…

Look. If you don't find it fucking hilarious watching a dying 80-year-old pedophile rapist wearing 4 pounds of bronzer drawing "Lake America" over Lake Ontario like it's some kind of genius geopolitical flex, while barely able to speak, I can't help you.🇨🇦 😂😂😂

This is only the 3rd most impressive thing @DollyParton has ever done. The 1st is: wrote “I Will Always Love You” and “Jolene” in the SAME DAY. 2nd is: served as an executive producer on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. 4th could be: become my BFF . After she cures COVID of course.🤞🏼

Truly the best of us and frankly, America. It will be impossible to ever replicate this level of grace, wit, talent and kindness as sheer superpower. But we should strive to follow her lead.
