#PhysicsOfVolcanoes9 is over.
- Great meeting, met old colleagues & got to know many students
- 4 brilliant key note talks by @epseibl, @magma_jule, @volcanofile & Miriam
- Edgar won the photo contest
Looking forward to seeing you next year! Thanks BGR for hosting.

Great mid-@iavcei2023 trip to Taupo.
For volcanologists, knowing the material properties of volcanic products is essential and allows to show off in a bar….
Lesson to learn: heat capacity of pumice is low!

Inspired by @vmsg_uk, Thomas Walter @VOLCAPSE & myself have initiated the German pendant, the annual (since 2015) 'Physics of Volcanoes' meeting.
This year, it will be hosted at BGR in Hannover (1-3 March).
Keynote speakers: @volcanofile, @epseibl, Miriam Reiss & @magma_jule

Although the #Fagradalsfjall tremor and eruption have stopped, it could come back! This happened many times in the 2021 eruption. The 2022 eruption itself could even be construed as a resuming of the 2021 eruption.

We're done and have installed an array of 7 seismometers to study the tremor that is caused by subglacial floods from Grimsvötn #volcano in #Iceland. The funding project is @NatRiskChange. Thanks to TD, DV and BHB for the support.

Great timing for this #Landsat8 acquisition! Whole Vatnajökull margin cloudless + both Skaftá cauldrons just released flood water with extra surface deformation with crevasses and a clear sign of the floodwater path 👇

Have you ever wondered how long you need to wait for an eruption of Strokkur geyser, Iceland? Here's the answer: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.…
Spoiler: Most likely you'll wait ~3.7 min. & if you're lucky you get a sextuple eruption.
Check out our catalog of 73466 eruptions.

Seismic arrays can track the moving flood front of subglacial floods. They can therefore help to advance the early-warning and reduce the risk for people in affected areas. Our research was published today in @NatureComms
