Been fun to work with Max on these ideas.
Excited to share a small piece I worked on with @ericscottsays. The cable has been laid under the ocean and we believe the world needs more receivers, not just more voltage. organismteam.substack.com/p/…

What is the future of education in America? If you look around, the answer is something like, yes, and. All of the trends we observe in real-time — the new models emerging , the old models persisting, the technological-economic-political context changing what is means to be a productive citizen — will continue to push in all directions and present age old dilemmas about education anew for a new era.

This is a seriously underrated tweet everyone is posting fancy AI-demos, but the work that @gw_smiles is doing will be how those AI demos actually affect change one day To revolutionize education, we need new tech, but even more so we need new economic & logistical models
🚨Huge news! 🚨 This September, Sora is opening a public school in partnership with the Torrance Unified School District in Los Angeles. It's called Torrance Meridian Academy. Public, tuition-free, and built on Sora's model: our project-based curriculum, our software, our training. All with the full weight of a top public school district and its facilities behind us. We open with grades 5-8 this September, and we'll grow to high school over the next few years. Torrance Meridian is a hybrid school. Students learn through live, remote classes Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, they have the option to show up in person at Torrance Unified facilities and premier community spots: brand-new stadiums, eight-lane tracks, full performing arts centers, an Olympic-quality aquatic center. And mind-blowing field trips every few weeks. This is one of the most ambitious public-private partnerships education has seen, and I think it's the path forward for how this country does school. We should NOT tear down public education in the name of innovation: public schools can offer a wide range of quality options within their own walls, so every student has access to the right path for them. Torrance Meridian Academy’s success could genuinely change the trajectory of public education. Pass this along to all 5th-8th-grade families in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Kern, or San Bernardino counties! The link is in the comments. Limited enrollment opens today!

# of times people have referenced "Bloom's 2 sigma" at a conference or in a pitch – at least a million # of times people have tried to replicate Bloom's study in the modern era – none... until now! I'm so excited to see what we all learn from ModernBloom!
I'm excited to announce the most ambitious recreation of Bloom's 2Sigma study of the last 40 years. It's funded by @reedhastings and staffed by a team of 20 of the best educators in this country. Our education team's goal is to show the largest academic gains in one year ever recorded, and we'll publish our results even if we fail. Recently, @jwdanner introduced me to @reedhastings. Most people know Reed co-founded Netflix. Fewer know he has been one of the driving forces behind improving education for the last twenty years. When Reed pitched me on recreating Bloom's famous 2-sigma problem, I felt an overwhelming sense of hope for education. Over the last few months we have moved at breakneck speed to assemble an exceptional team. Someone recently described it to me as the "Avengers of education." We are testing one question with the rigor it deserves: can elite one-on-one tutoring reproduce the largest learning gains ever measured in a controlled study? We will work with researchers from Stanford, Brown, Cornell, and other leading institutions, and we intend to be the most transparent research group in the field. That means publishing our methods, our benchmarks, and our results, whatever they show. We will invest up to $100,000 per year per student to give them the best education on the planet. If it works, the data and methods can help educators and technologists recreate these outcomes for every child. We are actively hiring tutors, engineers, and operations people to help us climb this mountain.

250 years ago, a small group built something the world had never seen: America. 🇺🇸 That spirit never died. In 2002, @elonmusk moved into a warehouse in El Segundo and proved Americans could still build the impossible. A generation of companies was born from that building. They're still being built here today. If you're building something your family and your country will be proud of, come to the Gundo and build what you need to. Apply for the Fall Cohort below. Deadline July 17th. Featuring @jordannoone and @jordan__black

Great project, rooted in the best of the old and the new.
I'm deeply grateful to announce the launch of @yochaiwiki - yochai.wiki - a new way to learn Jewish texts. The printing press made the library portable and cheap. @SefariaProject made the Jewish bookshelf free. And we're deeply grateful to them for enabling us to build atop their treasure trove. Claude and ChatGPT now make information free. But texts by themselves don't drive learning; information doesn't drive transformation. And Knowledge isn't "chiddush" (insight). The next frontier is personalized guidance through the library and the formation of deliberate practice. Yochai is a Socratic AI "chevruta" or learning guide, powered by a foundational library of 1,000+ primary sources from the Jewish canon, (and a knowledge graph of 2.5M entities, and 16M entity relationships, 375,000 searchable passages, and 17,000 canonical concepts that we developed around our own ontology). Yochai, uniquely, takes you directly to the sources and pushes you to discover and articulate your own insights about them. In addition to asking Yochai questions of life adviceor intellectual and spiritual interest, you can read the texts with Yochai's "lenses" in the margins, ask Yochai to produce lesson plans and source sheets, divrei Torah, textual outlines, and lit reviews, all backstopped by a verified library. Yochai takes its name from Shimon Bar Yochai, 2nd century sage and purported author of my namesake.

There are a ton of little things that could be improved to make this a better tutor... but it is impossible to watch this video & not see a coming transformation in education, given this is GPT-4o out of the box. We need to decide how to integrate it into education, starting now

Things we still need, in no particular order: 1. more sensors, more inputs that aren’t user text/speech 2. an actual aesthetic, preferably a refreshingly nihilistic one 3. an actual moral vision 4. higher continuity across long generation chains

Our great @FTFonFS1 teammate is going to try to somehow beat the 750K he raised for glioblastoma research last year, in honor of his amazing, and gone far too soon, brother Brad. He’s broadcasting for 24 hours straight & wants to raise a cool million. I think he can do it.
Tomorrow is the biggest day of my broadcasting year. 24 hours for cancer research in honor of my brother Brad. A 4 hour delay (this tweet from 35,000 feet) and an insane hoops game isn’t ideal for maximizing sleep. Anyway, game on. Talk to ya 10am @thescorechicago
