Starting the year with a new paper on arXiv! I always thought it was so cool to talk about research here, however previous work I have done isn't really easy to present to a general audience, until now! Here's a link to it: arxiv.org/abs/2401.02398 or read more in this thread.

Here’s an example of why I’m never leaving this app

Very happy to share that I successfully defended my PhD today!! 11 years old me would have been very proud, we got that PhD in mathematics ✨

An actual footage of me preparing to defend my math PhD in less than a week with everything else happening in math and ai right now

curious how the people that were very against copy paste of code for the junior devs are doing right now

about to defend my dissertation in a week and I can't help but keep thinking that, at this point in time, it isn't as cool to get a phd in math as it used to be

hmm not sure I agree with this! What math is exactly solved and what does it mean for that math to be solved? A big chunk of math has always gone hand in hand with sciences, are you saying all science is solved too? Dear perspective math phds, do not get discouraged (at least not yet). The field and the research is surely changing but there’s still lots to be done.
if you were thinking of applying to phd programs for math/tcs soon you may want to consider econ instead econ theory has a healthy culture towards valuing new questions, balancing application with elegance, and is well positioned for relevance in "doing math when math is solved"

had ai try and write my slides given a layout of what needed to be included for literature review, I gave it access to my papers and even a presentation sample it could have followed, it did terribly, I had to do everything by had.. turns out I am still the expert here 💅

One day I may include a longer version of what happened but the tldr version is: I got my account stolen back on March 10th and finally gained access again today. Yes, I added a two-factor authentication immediately and I highly recommend you do too for all accounts you care about.

I can't thank @prajdabre enough for this!! Thank you @singhai for looking into this matter for me. Friends, I am back!!!
@michaelo @singhai @pjvann thanks for helping. There's another friend who was a victim of this a few months ago. Her hacked account is @erisaonX. Their backup is @erisa_hn. Would be great to help her recover her account too. Tysm.

this is so cool, can't wait to see what they build. congrats to everyone involved!
Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI) is building a new breed of AI systems that understand the world, have persistent memory, can reason and plan, and are controllable and safe. We’ve raised a $1.03B (~€890M) round from global investors who believe in our vision of universally intelligent systems centered on world models. This round is co-led by Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital, and Bezos Expeditions, along with other investors and angels across the world. Looking for a job while keeping up with research is kind of draining but.. I am kind of enjoying (?) the process somehow. Like I have no clue what the future holds and that’s a bit exciting ngl.

There has been lots of applying online and talking to people and asking for referrals, but hey, that’s part of an early career in maybe not so great of a market.

Now, if you are in the same boat as me and applying for jobs, and feeling discouraged: well, I get it. Keep trying, I tell myself and you. Best of luck!

Had my first onsite technical interview yesterday and it was actually pretty fun! With the whole ai situation, I really appreciate companies that fly out their candidates for in person interviews.

a hyperbolic time chamber would have been pretty handy right now

paper got accepted! 🎉
New paper is now available on arxiv! Let me first tell you the coolest part: we complete and prove a result that, to the best of our knowledge, has been open since at least 2009 (ref. arxiv.org/pdf/0907.5524)!
