Leaked messages from a WhatsApp group show Green Party members discussing “killing Zionists” and expressing understanding for why someone might “want to plough into a group” of Jews. CAA polling shows 80% of British Jews identify as Zionists, while 6% do not. The group, set up by a Green Party parish councillor Sophus Magill, also had a participant write that “the IRGC are by definition part of a national liberation movement”. The message was sent before the IRGC was designated as a foreign state-backed threat believed to have directed terror attacks at Jewish communities in the UK. During one conversation, a participant asked if Magill wanted Israel “wiped off the map, in essence?” Magill replied: “Yes, I would like that.” These messages are not only utterly repugnant, but certain posts to the group may constitute criminal offences which our lawyers are currently reviewing. This is a matter that should be sufficiently serious to concern the police, especially given the talk of what seems to be a vehicular mass-casualty attack on British Jews. The Green Party has glibly declined to comment because the group was not “official” but that is not good enough, not least because the group was created by one of their Councillors. CAA’s online investigators have assessed that Direct Action Training is likely operating as a continuity or successor vehicle associated with Palestine Action. The digital infrastructure and public behavioural evidence indicates a connection between the website directactiontraining.org (‘Direct Action Training’) and Palestine Action, which has been proscribed as a terrorist organisation under the Terrorism Act 2000. Direct Action Training presents itself as a provider of skills training for so-called ‘direct action’ against Elbit Systems and its supply chain – one of Palestine Action’s favourite targets. According to our forensic analysis of Direct Action Training’s website and online infrastructure, and the group’s vetting processes, they are highly suggestive of an association with the banned terrorist organisation. Indeed, the Direct Action Training website domain was registered just one day before the ban on Palestine Action came into effect. In addition, the co-founder of Palestine Action has referred supporters to Direct Action Training. We are reporting our findings to Counter Terrorism Policing.
