An incredible piece of ancient history The Dacian Bronze Matrix from Sarmizegetusa Regia is a fascinating reminder of the craftsmanship and creativity of the ancient world.

There are two things with theory that you need to realise in art: 1. If it's wrong it's going to be downright detrimental. 2. It's not worth much without practice. You might understand a concept without understanding how to apply it. Balance theory with intuition.

And by intuition I mean what *feels* correct, without any conscious rationale. It should be balanced with theory for two reasons: first, to mitigate potentially poor/inaccurate ideas, and second, to give your artworks a quality/vision that is more uniquely, individually, yours.

On second thought I will reveal a portion of the first painting, without showing too much:
My project is underway. It must've been around 2 years since I first started seriously developing the main ideas behind it, alongside building up my skills to a satisfactory level. I won't reveal it yet, but what I will reveal is that it's going to be a series of oil paintings.

In truth it's more than that of, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. One painting is basically complete and another is half-way there, but I need a few more before I can start revealing them; both to truly cement what I'm making as my own, and to give a broader sense of..

I see The Algorithm didn't like this one, here's a closeup anyway:
Had a dream a couple of weeks ago of stumbling upon a fragment of a really high quality Roman fresco, one that I've never seen before but similar to the ones from Herculaneum. Felt compelled to bring it to life. The face and torso are the closest to what I saw.

The environment was an afterthought, and with the basket it was a loose memory (just remembered a similar weave type pattern). The painting itself was done almost entirely from imagination, with only the leg requiring a bit of refreshing. Had to delve into leg anatomy a bit

What I love about the art of the early renaissance is the precision and finality that's inherent to it. This is the reason I perfer it in many ways to the later manneristic and baroque developments, and beyond, where artworks become looser and lose this sense of total finish.
He estado unos minutos a solas con Mantegna. No se puede explicar con palabras.

It's also the reason why I really like ancient Egyptian art, even though it's very simplistic and formulaic artistically. In any case, there is room for looseness in my estimation but it should not be used to cut corners.

I am writing a series of short articles on my Patreon about the biggest gaming exploit I ever managed to pull off: I finally beat The City of the Dark Obelisk – Extended Edition! I understand why you don’t believe me. Link in the comments, if you are curious.

Timelapse of the Piazzetta study, no zooming and moving this time around. Besides a very good composition, there's a certain "atmospheric" quality to this work that I want to lean into a bit more with my own art. Trying to find the right balance.
