SpaceX wrote down its first decade as it happened. We put it all in one place: 173 documents, 2002-2013, on a timeline. Plus four "rooms", each with a story, like the Hail Mary from Flight 4 to the NASA contract as the money ran out. Best on a laptop: spacex.explorist.io

Grasshopper hopped eight times in a field in Texas so SpaceX could teach a rocket to land. Hop 4 was a hover slam. Once you brake, the engine pushes more than the stage weighs, so it cannot hover. Too soon, it stops in the air. Too late, it hits the pad.
