For our second Autumn workshop we have Extra Teeth founder and all-round legend @HeatherParryUK running Self-Editing for Writers!
About the tutor:
Heather Parry is a Glasgow-based writer and editor. Her debut novel, Orpheus Builds a Girl, was shortlisted for the Saltire Society Fiction Book of Year Award. She is the commissioning editor of Extra Teeth, and has worked as an editor for close to twenty years.
Gorgeous new fiction for you on Substack today ✍️
A Little Speck Believes by Mark Czanik
➡️ Head over to With Bite now to read more ➡️ link as usual is in our bio!
Mark Czanik is of English/Hungarian descent, and his work often takes the form of a partly fictionalised account of the meeting between these two worlds, a patch of shifting ground he keeps coming back to in the hope of discovering something he hadn’t noticed before.
🚨Brand new fiction 🚨
Moris’s Uncle Judah wants to help him stand up for himself in school. Moris goes along with it, but soon regrets it…
The Golem of Glasgow by Joshua Lander is now live on our Substack! Head over to With Bite to read 🦷
His book, Philip Roth and the Body: Jewishness, Gender, and Race was published by Bloomsbury in 2024. Currently, he’s working on his first novel, The Wasp’s Nest, a tragicomedy set in Glasgow that explores blood libel, antisemitism, and assimilation.
Nothing beats the back to school vibe of autumn 🍂
In line with this, we are running a workshop series over the next three months that focuses on the more technical aspects of writing — grammar with @CaileanSteed self-editing with @HeatherParryUK and pitching with Caro Clarke!
We can’t wait for @CaileanSteed workshop next week! So many of the technical aspects of writing are overlooked or misunderstood. We think that now (especially with the rise of AI!) knowing the rules of grammar and syntax is essential for anyone trying to write a good sentence.
If you haven’t got your ticket yet head over to our website to register. All proceeds from our workshops go straight back into further development opportunities for writers ✍️

Her debut short story collection, Make a Home of Me, was published by Dead Ink Books in 2025. It was longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize, and one of the stories, ‘Emily’, won the Shirley Jackson Award for best novelette. In Your Heart a Devil is her debut novel.
