Most tokenized stocks represent shares held in an offchain register. With $CNTN, the company itself is bringing its shares onchain, and Fairmint will maintain the official shareholder register on Canton. Actual company equity, with the ownership record onchain.
THE BLOCK: Canton Strategic Holdings aims to become the first publicly traded U.S. company to offer issuer-sponsored tokenized shares for trading on a venue operating under the SEC's new tokenization framework following its September innovation exemption. $CNTN plans to tokenize its common shares through SEC-registered transfer agent Fairmint and make them available for trading on TSV, a permissioned trading venue on the Canton Network, as early as Nov. 2.

Issuing shares is only half the job. Companies need to know what was authorized, who owns each share and whether transfers are valid. That's why Fairmint is bringing the official shareholder register onchain, making it the foundation for how equity is owned and transferred.

And this growth happened largely without public companies being involved. Imagine what happens now that they can bring their own shares and official shareholder register onchain 👀
Tokenized stocks have hit $4.63B, the same size stablecoins were in March 2020. Onchain equities were under $1B at the start of 2026. Stablecoins went from $4.6B to $297B from that point. Data: @tokenterminal

The next wave could look quite different when public companies start benefiting from bringing their own shares onchain. We just launched our Onchain Transfer Agent service to make that possible.
Tokenized stocks have reached $4.63B in market cap Stablecoins crossed that level in March 2020 and have since grown 64x to $297B Binance bStocks, Ondo & xStocks account for 81.4% of the tokenized stock market today

You think your team is quick but is it launching Onchain Transfer Agent services the same week 33 companies object to OKX/ICE's stock tokenization plans quick? 👀

If you're putting equity onchain, you probably don't want everyone seeing your shareholder records. But you might need someone to check them. Fairmint's Observer Nodes on @CantonNetwork let them see what they need, without giving them access to change anything.

nothing more spooky than thinking you bought Tesla shares onchain when you actually bought a tracker certificate issued by a Jersey company
nothing more spooky than traditional stocks still trading the same hours they did in 1985

Turns out, if you don't explain the benefits to issuers, they generally aren't on board. S/o @fairmint and @Securitize for doing the hard work. 🤝
🚨UPDATE: The list of issuers objecting to @okx/@ICE_Markets tokenizing their shares on its TSV has grown to 50. New additions include Nike, Costco, Micron, Reddit and Nvidia. The venture initially proposed tokenizing shares from 62 companies. Full list of objectors here:

For many startup employees, equity is their biggest asset. But selling it isn't easy. Approvals, transfer restrictions, finding buyers... Companies could offer structured liquidity while controlling who owns their shares. That's what better equity infrastructure should enable.

great to see more transfer agents putting actual shareholder registers onchain but what happens when every issuer uses a different system? Brokers and custodians shouldn't have to integrate with a new register every time. That's why we're building OCP as an open standard 🙌
RESEARCH: For an issuer, the path to tokenized equity starts with a party they already rely on: the transfer agent that maintains the shareholder register, @Equiniti in @Bullish's case. Issuer-sponsored tokenization does not remove that role, it moves the register onchain and keeps the token equal to the share.

more utility, more integrations, more ownership? OCP could help tokenized stocks with that last one 👀
More utility on the chain More integrations in the app More to do (and build) with Stock Tokens More work to be done

CNTN shares are headed for 24/7 trading. Tokenized shares issued by @Fairmint would carry the same rights as Nasdaq shares of CNTN. Trading on TSV via the Tradecraft protocol is expected as early as Nov 2, with every trade settling atomically on Canton.
A public company is bringing its own shares onchain. @CantonStrategic (NASDAQ: CNTN) has selected Fairmint as its Onchain Transfer Agent, with trading planned on TSV via @CantonNetwork. Fairmint will maintain its official shareholder register onchain.

U.S. equities are coming onchain, on Canton. @CantonStrategic agreed with TSV and @fairmint to become the first publicly traded company to make its common stock available for tokenized trading under the SEC's Innovation Exemption. ↓
Today, we announced an agreement with TSV and @fairmint to become the first publicly traded company to make its common stock available for tokenized trading under the @SECGov's Innovation Exemption framework. Proud to be a first-mover in bringing U.S. equities onchain and advancing the adoption of onchain financial infrastructure on the @CantonNetwork. Read more: prnewswire.com/news-releases…

Putting shares onchain while keeping the official ownership record elsewhere creates two ledgers to reconcile. Fairmint takes a different approach. As an SEC-registered transfer agent, we make the onchain ledger the authoritative shareholder register. One record of ownership.

Someone bought a full-page WSJ ad to warn CEOs about tokenized stocks… the concerns deserve attention but there's another side of the story that CEOs should hear. Here's what bringing real equity onchain could mean for companies and their shareholders 👇

Hybrid tokenized stocks also create a new reconciliation problem. Tokens move onchain, but the official shareholder register stays offchain. Two records to keep in sync. We're bringing the authoritative register onchain to remove that extra reconciliation.
Reconciliation across financial markets costs the industry an estimated $130 billion a year. Roughly $40 trillion in assets sit idle because of the friction involved in moving them. Canton is built to take that friction to zero. @YuvalRooz | TOKEN2049

Add ownership fragmentation to the list. Two tokens tracking NVDA can represent completely different rights. We need common standards for onchain equity ownership, not just more ways to trade exposure to the same stock.
Tokenized equities are so fragmented by issuers and liquidity. One company (E.g., NVDA) can have 5+ wrappers , each with different underlying structure , trading hours and live on different chains. If I traded stock and wanted to buy a tokenized stock onchain, I would find it confusing too. We still have a lot of room to improve.
