This may be the funniest and most revealing image of all time wrt the Jacobin left. Sunkara mounting one of the shallowest defenses of Chibber (clarity makes him easy to attack), & a right-winger who defended the ICE murder of Renee Good chiming in to praise him as "a treasure."

Picked up the first copy of the book today. It's real, it exists, it's beautiful!

For those who may be interested: Prof Anwar Shaikh left a brief autobiography here:

C’est un mariage en Algérie. On utilise des « fusils » pour tirer en l’air et au sol des feux d’artifice.
Contrairement aux Américains, on ne les utilise pas dans les écoles ou contre des citoyens.
Je comprend que ça les choque.

My beef with Abdul:
He says he’s a doctor. He’s not. He’s unlicensed.
He’s for abolishing the police. He deleted the tweet, but CNN found it.
His staff denied he’s a dual citizen w Egypt. Video shows Abdul saying he’s a dual citizen and he summered in Egypt.
He refuses to condemn the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran.
He blames terrorism on America’s policies.
He calls Israel bloodthirsty. Who uses that language?
He says he hasn’t taken a penny of corporate contributions, but his FEC report shows he received $1.9 million in contributions from 629 corporate executives, including from Nvidia, Google and Pfizer.
Abdul is a conman.

I’m back in the West Bank to document the olive harvest, which is already shaping up to be even bloodier than last year’s. On my first night, settlers invaded the village where I was staying and torched the car I’d arrived in hours earlier. Link to dispatch in next tweet.

Anwar Shaikh has left this world.
He was so clear in his thinking that he left a deep imprint on the thinking of generations of New School students and readers behind.
He would always insist that we had to get the first principles right. If you start from an absurd model and then argue the world is imperfect measured against that standard from cloud cuckoo land, you have gone astray with no way to return but to start anew.
He wanted to rebuild economics from scratch going back to the classics and in this process became a classic himself.
It’s hard to picture economics without Anwar. As we are challenged to rebuild the basics, we need his thinking more than ever. Thank you for leaving your writing for us. May you rest in peace.

worth noting that Gal Beckerman published a piece on Oct 12, 2023 that twice made reference to "decapitate babies" on Oct 7 and neither he nor the Atlantic have ever corrected or retracted the claim despite it being widely debunked.
NAZA, a provocative Israeli documentary, should make viewers think about their own moral parameters—instead, it distances them from the war in Gaza, @GalBeckerman writes. theatlantic.com/culture/2026…
