If you want to understand the history of passing in the NFL, this chart is a good place to start.
2020 was the highest completion percentage year ever (65.2%), and also the lowest Y/C year ever (11.1).
Cmp% in BLUE against the LEFT Y-Axis.
Y/C in RED against the RIGHT Y-Axis.
The 2026 Jets are the first team since the 1999 Bucs to hold their opponents to under 200 yards of offense in 3 of their first 5 games.
Over the last two seasons, in two games against the Browns, the Jets have combined to gain 26 first downs and throw for a *total* of 184 passing yards.... and go 2-0.
New wave but the math has been clear in this for awhile. I write about it as non controversial in 2015; Belichick did it in 1994
footballperspective.com/down…
In Kenneth Walker’s last 10 games, his team is 10-0 and he’s totaled 1,392 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 5.66 yards per carry.
Seeing this a bit on my timeline....
3 of the 7 were intentional (or tried to draw offsides) delay of game penalties on 4th down.
A 4th was an intentional delay of game on 1st down from the Jets own 1-foot line when they tried to draw CHI offsides.
3 delay of game mistakes
The Jets offense has 7 delay of game penalties already this season, easily the most in the NFL.
It's the most delay of game penalties by an NFL offense thru the first 4 weeks of the season since at least 2000 (per @TruMediaSports).
The Jets finished with 15 pass attempts and less than 60 rushing yards.
How rare is that? It’s never happened before in franchise history and just the 8th time at all in the Super Bowl era.
The Jets allowed over 475 yards and gained under 175 yards today against the Bears.
That’s just the second time this has happened in franchise history: the first came against the 1979 Patriots in a 56-3 loss.
The Jets allowed 34 first downs to the Bears today, the most in franchise history (excluding overtime). Really bad combination of offense and defense today.
When they said Cam Ward would be able to replace what he did in college … I’m not sure if this is what they meant? nitter.cf/NFLPerformances/status…
That was just the 6th time a Jets QB has thrown for 300+ yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs in the last 25 seasons.
Jets are somehow 3-3 in those games.
Geno Smith now twice, Mike White, Joe Flacco, Sam Darnold and Josh McCown.
The bar was low but the Jets are clearly a much better team than last year … fans have to feel better about the direction of this team and having to watch them every Sunday.
I give Aaron Glenn credit for the smart move to go for 2 in that situation (down 14, then scored a TD). Won’t always work, like there, but certainly the right play given the base rates and how this game has unfolded
Jahmyr Gibbs has 147 yards through 3 quarters. Jets defense is playing well for its talent level but they are not able to handle him
Jets offensive line gives up back to back sacks and Fashanu has now given up two sacks today.
Jason Sanders now with a longer field goal attempt coming up…
The next play was an 11 yard completion in the middle of the field that would have set up a FG….. but a holding penalty took it back.
Jets execution and play calling was an issue, but no problem calling a TO in that situation.
