Why cannot more #arablefarmland look this way? If it did, we certainly wouldn't face a #farmland #biodiversity crisis. Seen near Arundel, West Sussex, England.

I read in Defra's policy paper 'From commitment to conservation': 'With 71% of the Big Chalk landscape being farmland, farmers & land managers will be supported to move from unsustainable farming practices to managing the land primarily for nature'. What is Defra's def of nature?

The recovery of farmland biodiversity can only be achieved by nature-friendly farmers who believe in producing healthy food alongside farming with nature, not for it. I doubt farmers will ever farm for nature. Farmers farm to produce food so that we don't go hungry.

This is a uplifting news story also if I'm not surprised by the result. This BNG trade was obviously done well, based on expert advise in an area where re-colonisation was easy thanks to nearby chalk grasslands. Many BNG trades won't deliver on that level. theguardian.com/environment/…

It's nice to be recognized by others. It doesn't happen often enough, certainly not on here, where factual statements get lost very quickly. Thank you @TrooperSnooks .

Title is misleading as isn't stating the research correctly, but rest is worth the print. Correct is: Records since 1921 show more bee species are declining than increasing in all parts of Europe except the Alpine region. theguardian.com/environment/…

Myth or fact? 'The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world'. This🧵explains how a scientic finding is wrongly used to lament the UK's biodiversity crisis, especially on farmland. bbc.co.uk/newsround/58863097

Therefore, let's continue to research practical solutions that help reverse the decline of biodiversity, include those who manage the land & lobby for policies to pay for it. But let's do it in a civilised way, not a populist one, because only the former will ever be successful.
