I’m surprised that no one has written a cultural essay about how the response to AO3’s collapse reflects a business mindset driving engagement in the arts (i.e. regular people talking about box office receipts as if they’re shareholders) and rampant individualism over community.

I live in Nithya's district and can confirm. Her approach works, but it requires patience and buy-in from everyone. People often just want homeless people to moved or jailed, which doesn't work. Thinking that it does is a hundred times more naive than any "defund" slogan.

one of the main arguments for supporting nithya is that she will allow the people’s princess/city controller kenneth mejia to hold LA accountable to its budget, and that means less fraud and more things that make our lives better.
if you are an angeleno PLEASE vote for nithya

You have to understand Texas politics to understand why he’s saying this. This is not a state where progressive speaking wins. This is a state that has been gerrymandered to the point of beyond solidly red. That’s why he’s saying this
Talarico: "I would love as the next US senator from Texas to work with Donald Trump to actually fulfill some of the promise of his political project. Because the promise of MAGA was that we were gonna transform this government so that it delivered for the people who have been left time, been forgotten. And there's still time to do that on a bipartisan basis."

i dunno man, it seems unlikely that an author who hadn't written shit in that universe for ages wrote a book about a young man getting sucked into the alt right just as america was beginning its slide into fascism and a book on propaganda mid genocide as cash grabs

there seems to be an unwillingness by many people to understand that this sentiment is actually not controversial and is in fact shared by millions of voters
Abdul El-Sayed literally just repeated the gist of the claim that got him in hot water this week:
“It shouldn't be this hard to pay taxes and know that that money's gonna be spent on you and your kids, instead of dropping bombs on somebody else and their kids.”
That is the essence of the highly controversial ad that caused Haley Stevens to break with him and sparked condemnation from Jewish leaders across America.

The fact that Google felt comfortable even threatening this is evidence enough that the anti-trust hammer needs to be brought down on them hard. We've let these corporations get away with too much for too long.
Google is now threatening America's schools, saying they will turn off their core search functions if schools choose to entirely block AI.
