The Lakers didn’t pay Quentin Grimes $60M to stand in the corner and wait for a kickout.
23 points, 5 assists, 4 steals against the Clippers. Didn’t even hit a three.
That’s the Grimes I want to see more of. Attacking closeouts, getting downhill, making plays. Not just waiting around for Luka, AR or Sexton to find him.
Look, I get that touches are going to be limited on this team. But we saw what Grimes could do in Philly, and even in the preseason he looked comfortable playing alongside our stars.
Then against Utah and Portland, he barely seemed involved. Part of that is on him to stay aggressive, but JJ has to find ways to get him into a rhythm too.
Nobody’s asking for Grimes to take 20 shots a night. But if we’re reducing him to a spot-up shooter, aren’t we leaving a pretty big part of his game on the bench?
And that’s what concerns me more than his scoring. Can we get THIS version of Grimes when Luka and AR are both playing?
