I’ve spent 20+ years proving it’s rarely the Wi‑Fi… sometimes it is 😏. I built Wi-Fi Check to stop the guessing, so you can instantly know exactly where the problem resides — from iPhone → cloud. Now live on the App Store! Learn more → wificheck.net

These experiments are super important to sponsor. Some of it works and some of it doesn’t but it’s definitely worth the pursuit. The thing that we have done here is thought of this 2 to 3 person team team as someone that catalyzes the movement and gets the core team to own the final product. What this does is gets everyone to see the benefit of a different way of working. This is also important to have more memory-safe language code migrations that by definition reduce vulns. Lots of benefits to this approach. The key is to make sure that we are constantly pushing ourselves to think of new ways to accomplish much more than wasn’t possible in the past. The thing that is not obvious here is that every engineer at Cisco will benefit from this experiment and when they are part of this modernization in areas of their code, it gives them an accelerant to build what they couldn’t in the past with the speed they wanted to move at. There is a world that is not discussed as much which is that the future could be infinitely more secure, more innovative and filled with a lot more possibilities than we’ve been able to imagine due to previous constraints.
What’s changed in the last 3 months? In my conversation with Fortune 500 CIO clients, am hearing that they are willing to go 💯 percent AI First and native (versus tweaking around the AI Progressive edges). They are done with legacy and tech debt, unless AI can completely revamp. No way they can unleash the AI value, without rewriting the core systems. This comes as no surprise from @jpatel41 and @Cisco

Another great Halloween throwback. Friends don’t let friends use 2.4 GHz.

Throwback to what was arguably the world’s first 802.11ac Wave 2 (Wi-Fi 5) Pumpkin. 🎃 Eleven years. Hard to believe how much has changed… and how much really hasn’t. We’ve gone from 11ac Wave 2 to Wi-Fi 6, 6E, 7, and now Wi-Fi 8 is starting to emerge in the home and retail markets (pre-ratification, of course). Controllers? Apparently dead (or renamed to gateways 🤪) 2.4 GHz? Still hanging on with one foot in the grave. AI? Now apparently it’s going to fix all our Wi-Fi problems. 😉 But here’s the thing: AI might help design, optimize, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi, but it still takes great people to make great Wi-Fi happen. Eleven years of new standards, new technology, and new buzzwords. The tools change, but the people behind the networks are what make the difference. Still having fun with Wi-Fi. 🎃📶

As we enter into the phase of personal agents, the infrastructure requirements will continue to ride the exponential curve. Today, a tiny percentage of humanity (sub 2%) uses agents in any kind of power user capacity. I predict that in the next 12 to 15 months, we might have 30% of humanity using agents. If we live in a supply-constrained world with only 2% of humans using agents, we are gonna need to get far more creative when a much larger population becomes dependent on agents. The point being that the supply shortage on infrastructure for power, compute, memory, network bandwidth, and data center capacity seem durable. The answer to this is not just to build more datacenters, but also get the most out of existing ones. This is why USFP is such an important innovation. The demand will evolve to not just for a couple hundred thousand GPUs coherently clustered within a datacenter which is where we are today, but a future where we approach close to a million or more GPUs coherently clustered within a single datacenter. We at @Cisco are delighted to continue to keep partnering with @nvidia to push the limits of physics. We are also obsessed with combining the bandwidth density with the practicality of easy implementation. USFP scales bandwidth 4x with 16 lanes at 400Gb/s scalable to 32 lanes, coupled with 1.3x power efficiency. The other key point is that it’s built, deployed, serviced, and managed the same way as today’s pluggables. Thanks to all the members of both teams that worked tirelessly to making this happen. Read the details below on post from @ChuckRobbins 👇🏾
Scaling AI infrastructure requires massive bandwidth and power efficiency. Today, @Cisco and @nvidia announced design plans for USFP, the industry’s first 400G-per-lane pluggable form factor delivering 6.4T capacity and 1.3x greater efficiency. Let's go! cs.co/6004BH8wyi

It would be interesting for Apple to release these Wi-Fi enabled smart home accessories without the Wi-Fi solution to support them. When the experience sucks because of bad Wi-Fi, Apple would be on the hook. Just saying. Airport?
Apple plans to announce new smart accessories co-developed with LG next week. Rumored to launch is a door lock, indoor/outdoor security cameras and a temperature sensor. Would you buy any of these?

I had the same thought when I saw this. bringing back the Airport? If not, I might just build it as an extension of my Wi-Fi Check app.
Apple’s ‘Welcome Home’ Event – My Wildcard Prediction! What if Apple brings back AirPort, but not as we know it? Imagine the new Apple smart home display featuring a built-in Wi-Fi router, with the second-generation HomePod mini acting as a wireless mesh repeater. Suddenly, Apple wouldn’t just be controlling your smart home. It could be powering the network behind it, too. It’s a long shot, but imagine an Apple-powered mesh network built around your HomePods and smart home hub! Would you welcome the return of AirPort?

Very big deal
We announced an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio that will pave the way for @Starlink to become a major mobile carrier in the US. With this new spectrum and our Gen2 constellation, Starlink Mobile can ensure Americans have access to high-speed mobile broadband no matter where they are → spacex.com/updates#starlink-…

This is the last critical piece of the spectrum puzzle needed for SpaceX to provide complete phone coverage in America
AT&T CEO: Starlink Mobile won’t be able to penetrate walls. SpaceX: We’ve acquired 800 MHz spectrum, which will allow Starlink Mobile to provide better indoor coverage, including signals that can penetrate walls and other obstacles. People are underestimating Starlink Mobile.

Three worries every CEO should have about AI 1. Agent security We need to rethink cyber defense. Attacks will happen at machine speed. Our defenses need to keep up and also operate at machine scale. Human scale defenses won’t suffice. 2. Token economics A company’s or country’s ability to produce tokens efficiently and securely will shape its economic strength and security posture. Every CEO should be thinking of building a muscle in their company for being token efficient. 3. Agents between brands and customers If everyone has a personal agent handling purchases and services, those agents could become the new gatekeepers. CEOs should ask whether customers will still come directly to their brands, or rely on their agents to decide what to see and buy. These are structural shifts, not minor side effects of AI. Companies need to think through what a world full of personal agents means for their business, then keep adjusting as that world takes shape.

Maybe they’ll change the name to “Not Open SI.” I mean, not actually that. Just rebrand without the “Open” and with the “SI.” Perhaps even drop the “SI” too, just to hedge against the next rename.

This concept of kids growing up with AI that knows them and follows them through life, where someone can almost live on after they’re gone, is fascinating, and perhaps even a little disturbing.

AI Slop just defined/discussed on CBS News Sunday morning. We are at peak hype cycle. Oh, and they missed the memo, always 10 steps behind 𝕏, it’s SI Slop.
