Our October 2026 Commodore 64 update is here, with a new GTW entry, 11 updated entries and more educational software preserved thanks to Allan Pinkerton. A slightly quieter month as work continues on the second GTW book, but still plenty to explore! gamesthatwerent.com/2026/10/…

In 1994 Hybrid Technology (publishers of Archimedes Elite) produced an Elite graphics demo running on a Gameboy. The full game never emerged. I wonder how playable it would have been! It was possible on a Nintendo NES, so who knows?

Since 1979 I've saved many documents and relics from my gaming journey. My name is Tim Stamper, I'm the co-founder of Ultimate Play The Game, Rare and FortuneFish. It's finally time to let go of my reputation for secrecy... 👀

Tim Stamper just broke his legendary silence. The man who co-created Ultimate Play the Game and Rare — the guy behind Atic Atac, Staff of Karnath, GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark, and so many other games that defined entire generations — is finally opening the vault. After decades of near-total secrecy, he’s started sharing relics, stories, and behind-the-scenes history from his journey since 1979. This is the closest we’ve ever gotten to the real story behind some of the most important games ever made. If you grew up on Spectrum, C64, or N64, this is the account to follow right now: @InTimsWorld The keys are jangling. Don’t miss what comes next.

Have you ever heard of a Harry Potter project for Dreamcast or another console developed by Treyarch? Sometimes you come across some pretty strange things in prototypes...

Another GTW @fgasking Boneless.. which I'm pretty certain won't ever make an appearance on the C64 unless I manage to find the time in the future to re-awaken it. #c64boneless @rwxdesigns

Nuker was an unreleased #C64 Thalamus game that was fully recovered by #GTW64 in 2015. A intriguing twist on snooker, where you must pot all the balls on a futuristic board to progress. gamesthatwerent.com/gtw64/nu…

Drop Soldier was an ambitious RPG with 3D elements, putting you in the shoes of a 1st rank soldier across various night and day missions. Due for release on #Amiga, #PC and #ST platforms - it was canned after Image Works collapsed in late 1991. gamesthatwerent.com/2021/12/…

Judge Death was a #2000AD licence from Piranha that was due for release in 1987 on the #C64. The company sadly collapsed before it could happen, but an odd (unofficial?) release under the name of Horror City was made in 1989 which you can check out. gamesthatwerent.com/gtw64/ju…

Orcus was a very promising SEU for the #C64 back in 1990, with some superb music + sfx by JCH. Cancelled after the team working on the game never got paid. Thankfully some previews have managed to surface, though we hope to see more some day. gamesthatwerent.com/gtw64/or…

Myth: History in the Making was meant to have seen a revival on #PlayStation, #PC, #N64 and #Saturn platforms back in 1998 by System 3. Though after some promising preview screens, it was never heard of again. Could anything of it some day be found? gamesthatwerent.com/2021/12/…

Inspector Gadget and the Circus of Fear was to be very different compared to the awful final #C64 release. Originally a Metro-Cross style game with wonderful intro, it was scrapped due to an "unfixable" bug at the time. Check it out for yourself at: gamesthatwerent.com/gtw64/in…
