random but if anybody ever wants to talk ball (or life) my DMs are open. way more fun than tweeting on the timeline

I just don't get Oyarzabal. feel like Spain are more dangerous with Olmo as the highest player and Pedri in the team. or just a forward who's competitive in duels/runs in behind

you could maybe make a case to sit deep and hold on in a context neutral situation there. but against a team with the best deep lying playmaker of all time? and multiple players who love to shoot from the edge of the box? it’s just completely indefensible

easy to play the hindsight is 20/20 game but this was glaringly obvious at the time too. genuinely can’t believe how Tuchel managed the second half
Getting flashbacks to our last WC SF with this 532 getting killed in the FB zones making for inescapable crossing barrage. And they’re getting good numbers between our players too, so this doesn’t feel too survivable atm.

this midfield three featured three players who had played the entire match and a ball winner who was on a yellow card. just insane

inviting that much pressure for 30 minutes while simultaneously handicapping yourself for potential extra time just seems foolish to me

Argentina are not beating the Messi and ten bodyguards accusations

Spain's lack of runners in behind is glaring but also gives them such a strong structure to keep the ball and counterpress in numbers.

throwback feel to this team before football became so reliant on duels and distance covered

Dani Olmo is unbelievable receiving the ball between the lines. Probably my favorite player to watch this tournament.

Mbappe’s off ball gravity is game breaking. Feels like he’s just as explosive as he was when he was breaking through at 17. Insane player.

going to need to investigate what Oviedo were doing with this demon

Oyarzabal seems to waste a lot of chances and be in the wrong spot pretty often for a player who’s entire thing is finishing team moves

another cutback flashing across the box with no Spanish player in sight

Norway plan in possession is so odd. completely vacating the most dangerous areas of the pitch to aimlessly pass the ball around like they’re playing for ET. hopefully Bobb can improve the structure on the right

just a complete waste to have Odegaard drop out of the Brazil block and play nothing passes with the CBs. can’t stand when players want the ball so much they overload areas with little purpose

there are about 4-5 instances every match this World Cup where the refs just aren’t giving things that look like clear fouls to me. not sure if it’s a directive to cut down embellishment but odd to debut on the biggest stage

Australia are shockingly bad. invited a game where they defended their own box and look like they have zero ability to do so

overall been impressed by FOX’s coverage of the World Cup but just cannot get through a John Strong game. I have never heard somebody ramble off more useless trivia while having so little to say about the game itself
