Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G sequel lasted one weekend in theaters, and the Hollywood Reporter is blaming pro-Palestine activists, and discussing "Hamas-affiliated operatives.”
THR detailed a campaign by UK-based NewsCord, whose platform gave users AI-assisted templates to email cinemas; NewsCord says about 55,000 emails went out. THR then pointed to the group's support for Gaza aid flotilla participants, whose leaders the US Treasury designated "Hamas-affiliated operatives." NewsCord, which calls Ali G a form of blackface, accused THR of drawing "conspiratorial links."
Amazon MGM opened the film on just 23 screens, withheld box office figures, and moved it to Prime Video five days later, per World of Reel.
So Ali G was a flop. The Hollywood Reporter is so hurt about this they are once again calling us out for the campaign we ran.
Again, they are linking it to our other work combatting the media’s abhorrent coverage of the Gaza genocide. As a way to “explain” why we ran the campaign, because Sacha Baron Cohen is a Zionist.
They’re also making conspiratorial links with other organisations all in defence of this racist film, whilst not once acknowledging why us, and thousands of others, find it racist.
They are so desperate to deflect because they cannot address the core argument: Ali G is blackface without the burnt cork.

Some people are responding to the headline of my latest article on the film NAZA with: "There's no evil lurking in me. It's just those Israeli soldiers."
There are two things that make any of us capable of committing evil acts:
1. Finding ourselves in circumstances that, we are persuaded, call for evil.
2. Lacking the capacity for deep self-reflection.
Those of us who have never found ourselves in the first situation have never really been tested on whether we have that second capacity.
If you're absolutely certain that you could never do what those Israeli soldiers did in Gaza, then you have either done a lot of self-reflection or none at all.
We have faced one test already: whether we protested the Gaza genocide with all our might or stayed quiet.
But that test is the lowest bar there is. Would we still keep our humanity if we were persuaded the stakes were personally much higher for us and our loved ones, as many Israelis were persuaded in relation to Gaza.
NAZA works, at least for western audiences, because on one level it makes us identify with the Israeli soldiers – they look and sound like our own children – while on another it shows the utter depravity of what they are rationalising to themselves and to us.
It pulls us in and repulses us at the same time. It causes huge cognitive dissonance in western audiences – the reason most people walk out in stunned silence.
That may lead to the kind of deeper self-reflection needed before western publics refuse to allow their leaders to collude in genocide.
But it may also lead some, those less able to self-reflect, to entrench in their connivance with evil.
We can't blame NAZA for that. The film offers us a chance to open our eyes. But each of us must decide whether we are willing to see or remain blind.

Here's a recent article @newscord_org highlighted, about an Israeli advertising company infecting targets on behalf of its Israeli spyware partners.
Israel is very much central to this story. The Guardian's headline on this initially attributed the attacks to an "Israeli firm", but then changed it shortly after to remove mention of Israel.
Imagine it was a Russian firm responsible for this. Do you think the Guardian would make such an edit?

Citizen Lab found that Discover-Tech, an Israeli ad company, used targeted adverts to plant Israeli ‘zero-click’ Candiru spyware on 45 Al Jazeera computers between 2024 and 2025.
Just seeing the advert is enough to be infected with the spyware. The Guardian changed their headline to remove the Israeli association.
The Guardian published it at 12.15pm as:
“Israeli firm’s digital ads enabling installation of ‘zero-click’ spyware”
By the evening the headline said:
“Online ads weaponised to deliver ‘zero-click’ spyware, researchers say”
They weren't the only ones. The FT, WIRED, TechCrunch, Ars Technica and the Globe and Mail all also kept Israel out of the headline.
