A group of particular interest is the bellflower genus Burmeistera (Campanulaceae), which includes about 150 bat-pollinated species in the cloud forests of Central and South America, many of which were discovered and named in collaboration with scientists @mobotgarden
This is happening too frequently all over the world and threatening biodiversity research at this most critical time.
Half of the team at the Tasmanian #Herbarium have been told they will lose their jobs, including its head, internationally acclaimed lichen researcher Dr Gintaras Kantvilas.

"A #herbarium becomes a great scientific institution not by accumulating specimens, but by building the people and programs that make those #specimens useful."

@KathleenPryer
UNC just inherited a great collection. Will it build a great program?
My op-ed in today's @newsobserver on the Duke–UNC herbarium transfer. The collection is safe. What happens next depends on how many curators and faculty UNC hires — and when.

Schrebera kusnotoi Kosterm. (Oleaceae). A rare tropical olive. @yeewenlow and I needed all our brain power for this one! Opposite compound leaves (though not always) and a woody mahogany fruit. Very strange + very rarely collected in Borneo. #SBGScience #botany #Sabah
Thanks for reading it @Homerificus !!!
Replying to @flannerm
Thank you for the great and concise writeup, always enjoy reading what comes out of the blog. Neat to have Canada crop up!
