Insane that the UK is banning various types of porn for being too spicy but does nothing about The Chatbot That Tells You To Kill Yourself
A few disappointing absences from yesterday's budget:
🔒Rent controls
💰Equalising capital gains tax rates with income tax (so investment income is taxed at the same rates as income from work)
🌍Any mention of that small issue of... the climate crisis...

The day after the Chancellor never mentions climate once in his speech - Shell announces profits of over £8,000,000,000.
having a lower minimum wage for young people is straight up age discrimination and considering age is a protected characteristic, I'm amazed someone hasn't seen the sued the government yet

Someone help @UKLabour. They've tried nothing and they're all out of ideas.

#Budget2026: lots of small measures but nothing that seriously addresses the scale of the cost of living crisis, now set to worsen sharply over the next year. Banks, making extraordinary profits in the last few years will be breathing a sigh of relief that they got off so lightly

I’m fed up of Westminster treating us like fools. £45 a year off gas but it’s being added on to unit prices Plus price rise in January adding potentially £200 a year. It’s a big con which Government think we can’t see.
it's because if you criticise it, you sound like a sourpuss. they are trying to shield themselves from challenge.
Genuinely struggling to understand the optics and political strategy of announcing policies that will save households £1-£2 per week.
You might as well not bother. It’s not even a small win. In fact it probably angers people more than it appeases them. #Budget2026

Police do not prevent crime; they respond to it. Crime is prevented by higher wages, guaranteed health care, food security, high-quality child care, housing, good schools, and addiction treatment.

Gas standing charges to be "scrapped"?
The cost doesn't vanish?? It moves into unit rates. Low users gain, everyone else pays more
And bills are forecast to rise again in January anyway?!?!
Sorry..can someone explain how this helps households breath a little?

I'm just glad I don't live in a dictatorship but a free democracy where every few years I can vote for a different banker or lawyer or landlord that represents the vast network of powerful corporate interests that controls every aspect of my life from cradle to grave

Today’s budget looks like being worse for our future and the young than even anything Starmer came up with.
A budget based on approval of mass new oil drilling is a betrayal of our future.
EXCL: The giant Rosebank oilfield can be approved without breaching the UK’s emission targets, according to government insiders, in a boost to those in the cabinet who are pushing for it to be given the go-ahead.
Sources also say the Treasury has already accounted for billions of pounds’ worth of tax revenue from Rosebank and so would be faced with a shortfall should it be rejected.
