2차 인티파다(민중봉기)를 상징하는 이 사진 많이 보셨을 텐데요.
파레스 오데(14)는 사진이 찍힌 열흘 후, 이스라엘 점령군이 사촌형(17)을 살해한 데 맞서 다시 탱크에 돌을 던지다 살해됐습니다. 이후 이스라엘은 돌을 던지는 팔레스타인 시위대를 탱크로 사살해도 된다는 군내 지침이 생겼습니다.
I can hardly imagine anyone who hasn’t seen this photograph. But it was taken on this day in 2000.
I cannot believe the photo is 26 years old now.
The boy in the photograph was Fares Odeh. He was just 14 years old.
Ten days after this image was captured, Fares went out again to throw stones at Israeli tanks, seeking to avenge the killing of his 17-year-old cousin.
An Israeli sniper shot him in the neck, killing him.
And there is another chilling detail to this photograph.
The photo changed Israeli tank doctrine. In August 2001, The Jerusalem Post quoted an anonymous tank doctrinist saying tank personnel were now instructed to fire upon rock-throwers.
