you guys voted for a woman whose entire mayoral campaign reduced black urban life to a collection of stereotypes: spinning cars, djing and kasi culture. she doesn’t see the complexity of the people she’s asking to represent bc she doesn’t see black people as whole people

Wednesday's local elections decide who runs your water, electricity connections, roads and refuse for the next five years.
It's the sphere of government you touch most and scrutinise least. Here's a small guide to thinking it through, whoever you end up backing.

A policeman in Cape Town lives in a shack. An airport assistant lives in a shack. A bank teller in Cape Town lives in a shack. Same jobs. Same salaries. In Joburg, that same policeman owns a home in a middle-class suburb. That’s not a coincidence that’s what DA governance does to a city. It prices out the people who keep it running. Don’t bring that model to Joburg….DA is Not Good for Joburg. Never say I didn’t tell you
Cape Town international airport at a stand still … taxi strike affecting even airports… no staff could arrive and entire system collapsed… where’s @Our_DA @geordinhl

The fact that so many Joburg residents are without water ahead of the municipal elections is a serious cause for concern.
At this point, the situation feels almost impossible to fix. It's a damning reflection of the state of service delivery in the city.

The 4th of November is not a public holiday or a day for groove, we need to go out there and reclaim our country from criminals and corrupt politicians who hate South Africans.

No. When they reject them, they can appeal. And then they get given a permit. And with that permit, they are protected to live here for as long as the appeal process is underway. The issue is there is a backlog in appeals, meaning you can stay here 19 years or 19 months or whatever time, while your appeal is being processed.
If the rejection rate is 95% as per what the Minister is saying. What happens to those “asylum” seekers? Are they deported back or they just stay in the country illegally? @TheRealClementM @Leon_Schreib

Let’s not forget.
Of the 11 bodies of women found in Ekurhuleni over recent months, arrests have been made in only three cases.
That leaves 8 cases with no arrests.
Every victim deserves justice. Every family deserves answers.
These cases cannot be forgotten. The investigations must remain a priority until those responsible are brought to book.

JUST IN : I just spoke to the Eswatini government spokesperson Thabile Mdluli. She says she doesn’t want to come on air or to confirm whether or not any of the criminals travelled via South Africa. I tried to press her and asked “but can you assure us that they were not released to transit via SA?”, she responded with “We are not revealing the transit countries, Clement.” We don't want to cause unnecessary panic” she says.
@ClaysonMonyela don’t you think it’s weird that they are refusing to confirm that these criminals didn’t transit via SA upon their release?

BREAKING NEWS 🚨
Home Affairs To Accept Asylum Applications From People Who Entered South Africa Illegally
The Department of Home Affairs will no longer turn away people seeking asylum simply because they entered South Africa illegally or do not have the required immigration documents.
Deputy Director-General Thulani Mavuso told 702’s Clement Manyathela today, Monday that refugee reception offices must accept applications from anyone who presents themselves and asks to apply for asylum.
The move follows a Constitutional Court judgment delivered in July, which declared several provisions of the Refugees Act unconstitutional. The court found that procedural immigration violations could not be used to prevent asylum seekers from having their claims assessed on their merits.
A department instruction issued on 28 September reportedly directs reception offices to accept applications from unlawful entrants, late applicants and people without asylum transit visas.
Mavuso warned that the change could put further pressure on the department, with people already in South Africa unlawfully potentially joining queues to seek asylum.
The Constitutional Court ruling was based partly on the principle of non-refoulement, which prevents South Africa from returning people to places where they could face persecution or serious harm.
Home Affairs said after the judgment that it would comply with the court's decision while maintaining a lawful and well-managed immigration system.
