NO PLACE FOR HATE ✊🏿
Hate has no place in our schools, workplaces, or communities.
On Monday, November 9, ETT President Nigel Barriffe will join MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam and a representative from Toronto East Anti-hate Mobilization (TEAM) for a community conversation about the rise of far-right hate and how we can organize together to challenge it.
At a time when division and fear are being used to turn communities against one another, solidarity and collective action matter more than ever.
📅 Monday, November 9, 2026
🕖 7:00–9:00 PM (doors open at 7)
📍 Wellesley Community Centre, 495 Sherbourne Street
Free event. Advance registration required: forms.cloud.microsoft/Pages/…
Join the conversation. Together, we can build communities where everyone belongs.

Ford government jump scare 😱
NEW TODAY: The Ford government plans to spend billions more this year — but not on sectors that say they desperately need it, like health care and education.
Ontario’s fall economic statement sets aside $3.8 billion in a contingency fund, more than double what was budgeted in March, to provide "fiscal flexibility" amid ongoing economic uncertainty.
The province is also projecting a $16.9 billion deficit, and has pushed back its timeline to balance the books.
#ETFO MEDIA RELEASE: Fall economic statement fails to address yrs of damage to Ont’s public schools
“While the provincial govt prepares to give billions in tax breaks to large corps, it continues to overlook mounting challenges in #OntEd.”

Another confusing turn in the Ford government’s takeover of Ontario school boards...
First, trustees at supervised public school boards were stripped of their governing powers.
Then, the province left it unclear whether newly elected trustees would even be sworn in.
When some trustees said they would keep meeting with their communities and speaking publicly anyway, Minister Calandra reversed course: they will now be sworn in, while still being barred from governing.
The effect is that trustees remain sidelined, but are once again subject to the code of conduct and integrity oversight.
That raises a serious question: is this really about accountability, or about limiting how elected trustees can speak and organize while their boards remain under provincial control?
When trustees make mistakes, Calandra takes over. When political allies make mistakes, Calandra promotes them. 🤦🏽♀️

✊🏿 WHAT A DAY! ❤️
As the day comes to an end, I’m still thinking about the thousands of educators who showed up today for our students and public education.
Smaller class sizes matter. More resources matter. Every child deserves the support they need to thrive.
Today was powerful, but it was only the beginning.
To every ETT member who showed up, thank you! You reminded us what solidarity looks like and what’s possible when we stand together.
The rally may be over, but the fight for public education is just getting started.
WE ARE THE MANY. AND WE’RE NOT BACKING DOWN! ✊🏿❤️

“Underfunding is a choice.
Staffing shortages are the result of choices.
And this government needs to own those choices.”
Yesterday, more than 10,000 education workers, families, students, and community members rallied across Ontario for the future of public education 🙌🏽
As #OSSTF President @marthahradowy told the crowd at Queen’s Park, students, education workers, and families didn’t create the crisis in our schools, but they’re the ones paying the price.
Ontario’s students deserve better.
