We really need to have a discussion about how much work SIDs do, what they’re responsible for/get asked to do beyond their job description, and how much their administrations disregard/seem to actively despise them anyways

The SID, One of the Most Vital, Yet Often Thankless, Jobs in College Athletics
As a former Sports Information Director (SID), I know firsthand that the job is so much more than updating stats and sending out press releases. We wear a lot of hats, often behind the scenes, to make sure our student-athletes, coaches and programs receive the recognition they deserve.
We are:
• Publicists who promote our programs, coaches and student-athletes.
• Storytellers who bring the people, moments and accomplishments behind the games to life.
• Social media managers who engage fans and keep our communities connected.
• Historians who serve as custodians of records, statistics, archives and program history.
• Advocates who nominate and campaign for conference, regional and national honors, postseason awards and All-America recognition.
• Statisticians and official scorers who know the numbers, understand the rules and ensure accurate records during competition.
• Media coordinators who organize interviews, manage media requests and prepare student-athletes and coaches to handle interviews with confidence.
• Broadcast partners who prepare background information, statistics, storylines and talking points to help television and radio crews tell the story of the game.
• Collaborators who work with marketing, communications, ticketing, development, alumni relations and other campus partners to meet the needs of the department.
• Plan all promotion with recruiting and revenue generation in mind.
• Photographers and photo coordinators who capture, organize and preserve the moments that define a program.
• Planners and problem-solvers who prepare for every possible scenario, adjust on the fly and find solutions when things don't go according to plan.
And that's just scratching the surface.
Much of what we do happens before the lights come on, after the final buzzer sounds and in the countless hours between competitions. When things go right, the work often goes unnoticed. When something goes wrong, we're often the first ones asked what happened.
It's a profession built on preparation, attention to detail, relationships, institutional knowledge and a genuine passion for telling the stories of college athletics.
To all the SIDs and athletic communications professionals doing this work every day - your work matters, even when it doesn't always get recognized, or even criticized.
Big thanks to coaches and administrators that truly get what we all do, compared to the admins who underfund with over-demanding expectations that don’t match the resources.

The most thankless job in sports. I loved so much of my experience as an SID, but once you realize coaches think the entire world revolves around their one program at all hours of the day (and I’m not kidding, I got an email at 4 am last spring), it’s time to get out.

“We are a unique bunch…nobody else in the country plays our style.”
16 matches. Zero losses.
@creightonmsoc is one of just two remaining unbeaten teams in DI men’s soccer.
Head coach Johnny Torres joins me tonight at 10 on @KETV.
Trivia: Name the last @CreightonWBB to average at least 2.0 steals per game in a season?
Four tickets to a Bluejay WBB game for the correct answer.

The sickening stories keeping coming in…😢😢😢
SHAME ON YOU, @StubHub.
Imagine being a kid, a HUGE @Brewers fan, and finding out you’re going to see your team play in the WORLD SERIES! ⚾️💙💛
The excitement. The anticipation. The memories you’re already imagining making.
Now imagine having that excitement ripped away because a company sold your 3 tickets that you bought, that they apparently can’t deliver.
That’s exactly what we’re dealing with right now.
We purchased THREE tickets to the Milwaukee Brewers World Series for Game 1 last Tuesday(13th) through StubHub. We selected our section, our row, paid for our tickets, and received our order confirmation.
Everything was supposed to be set.
Then suddenly, StubHub tells us they’re “searching for replacement options” because they can’t provide the tickets we purchased.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
How does a company accept someone’s hard earned money, confirm a purchase, and then turn around and say they can’t fulfill it?!
And their solution? We can request a refund while they continue looking for tickets.
THIS ISN’T ABOUT THE MONEY.
It’s about the experience. It’s about the memories. It’s about the excitement of a kid, his dad, and grandpa, who thought they were going to watch their favorite baseball team play on the biggest stage in baseball.
Look at the first picture. That’s the disappointment you’re creating, StubHub.
A refund doesn’t replace that moment.
And here’s what really bothers me…
StubHub advertises a “FanProtect Guarantee” and tells customers their orders are “100% guaranteed.”
Guaranteed WHAT, exactly?!
Because from where we’re sitting, that guarantee doesn’t feel worth much when you can’t deliver the tickets you sold us.
We did everything right. We purchased through a major ticket marketplace. We trusted the confirmation. We trusted the guarantee.
Now it’s time for StubHub to make it right.
We aren’t asking for anything extra. We want the three tickets we paid for, or comparable or better seats together, at no additional cost.
Stubhub…DO BETTER.
Please SHARE this. Not just for us, but for every fan who has trusted a ticket company with an experience that means so much more than the price of admission.

Such an honor to receive a national Edward R. Murrow Award.
As a Long Island native, having this celebration in New York made it all the more meaningful. Meeting @GioBenitez was pretty cool too!
So appreciate our team at @WOWT6News that produces amazing content every day!

This announcement should inspire an essential conversation with all of our members, particularly our colleagues and friends at @CollSportsComm. Efficiency is not to be confused with authenticity.
WSU Athletics is proud to announce a new partnership with @fanword to improve our efficiency and elevate the storytelling of our Cougar student-athletes!
