Amazing shot! 😍 Storms over the southeastern part of the Valley are winding down, with lingering showers and storms over southern NV and northwestern AZ expected to continue moving northeast, diminishing by tonight. Drier conditions return tomorrow onward.

🇷🇺 An interesting post by Russian journalist Georgy Bovt about Yandex:
“Then it suddenly emerged that tens of billions of rubles had been spent on internet filtering and blocking online dissent, but somehow no one had bothered to protect data centers against potential attacks by enemy drones.
Not to mention the extreme centralization that has made this infrastructure particularly vulnerable during wartime.
Restoration will require chips that are banned under sanctions. And other components, too. And time. A lot of time.
And this is only the preliminary phase, during the first week of such attacks.
Three data centers have been partially damaged.
According to publicly available information, Yandex has a total of six data centers in five cities.
Building one from scratch costs approximately 6–7 billion rubles.
Repairs are, of course, cheaper, but that raises the question of access to spare parts subject to sanctions.”

Get ready for wet Las Vegas area on Sunday from Rachel
From the Friends of @LVMPD SAR:
WEATHER ALERT
NOAA has issued hazardous weather condition notifications for the next few days as Tropical Storm Rachel continues toward the mainland and that weather is anticipated to roll through Clark County.
The alerts call for an inch of rain and sustained gusts 40mph+. We all know that that much rain could bring flooding, especially flash flooding to the rural areas outside of town and flood channels in town. The winds especially will create difficulties for any air rescue capability.
Please make informed decisions if you decide to recreate this weekend.
Specifically for any one going to Red Rock please use caution as the sandstone integrity is diminished when it becomes wet and can be incredibly brittle.
Do not climb on wet sand stone. Even hiking in it can result in damage to the sandstone.

One of the most remarkable parts of weather science is predicting disasters before they happen. Daniel Swain (@Weather_West) breaks down how meteorologists saw the LA fires' extreme wind event coming days in advance. New episode: youtu.be/qpHfrnZ9UAk
This truly is a Hegseth train wreck. Driscoll was correct.

VEGAS ISN’T DEAD. IT’S BREAKING UP WITH THE GRISWOLDS. 🎰
Three resort CEOs say they’re prepared to keep high-end room rates up—even if that means fewer occupied rooms.
That’s the distinction I’ve been talking about: filling every room isn’t the same as protecting the experience.
When COVID hit, Vegas discounted rooms to bring people back. That part is documented. From what I saw living here, parts of the Strip started feeling less like an adult Disneyland and more like a bargain-basement free-for-all.
Here’s the problem: you can discount a room overnight. It takes years to undo a bargain-basement reputation.
My uncle worked directly for Sheldon Adelson. He told me Sheldon’s approach at the Venetian in 1999 was straightforward: raise table minimums to $10, establish a dress code, and actually enforce it.
The lesson wasn’t simply “charge more.” It was decide what experience you’re selling—and protect it.
People paying for luxury aren’t just buying a bed. They’re buying atmosphere, service, and standards. They don’t want chaos in the lobby.
And when you market yourself as the cheapest option long enough, “cheap” becomes the expectation—not a temporary promotion.
My read? This is more of the Strip deciding it would rather compete for higher-spending guests than win every bargain-hunting vacation search.
That doesn’t make every price increase smart. And it certainly doesn’t make every empty room intentional.
But “Vegas costs more than I want to spend” and “Vegas is dead” are two very different statements.
As I said before: Vegas didn’t die. Vegas reset.
The Griswolds may still want the old deal. These resorts appear willing to let that deal—and some of that business—go.
Smart reset, or a dangerous bet on too few big spenders? 👇
Three Las Vegas resort CEOs at the 26th annual Global Gaming Expo say they expect to continue keeping their high-end hotel rates up, even if it means sacrificing occupancy rates.
