This will never get old. Congrats to @WRESTLINGRHS for winning an eighth wrestling TEAM state championship.
Let him rot in the press box until we find what we want
🚨 UPDATE: Per @PierreVLeBrun, Dylan Larkin & his camp were the ones to decide that he was no longer going to play for the Red Wings, in hopes that sitting out would accelerate a trade happening. #LGRW
Thoughts on Dylan sitting it out & risking suspension? ⤵️
The main reason people struggle with teams going for certain 4th downs is because they're stuck in the way football used to be played. I think the actual play call was a worse thing than going for it. If they punt that ball, they probably lose or go to OT
Dan Campbell's 4th-and-1 was the right call, and it isn't close.
The setup: tied 17-17, about four minutes left, 4th-and-1 at the Detroit 24.
Most coaches punt there. Here's what punting gets you. On their long drives, Green Bay was taking close to six minutes off the clock. Punt them the ball with four minutes left and they don't need a touchdown. They run the clock down, kick a field goal at the end, and Jared Goff never touches the ball again.
Going for it gave Detroit two ways to win:
1) Convert, and Detroit controls the clock and the game.
2) Miss, and Green Bay gets a short field. A short field means a quicker score or a stop. Either way, Goff gets the ball back with time to work.
The real choice was between a possible extra possession and possibly none at all. Campbell took the possession.
Campbell said as much after the game. He thought they'd get it, and if they didn't, he believed they'd get the ball back. ESPN Analytics said go. Next Gen Stats said go. Ben Solak and Seth Walder said go.
Did I love the play call? No. It was slow to develop, and I'd have taken a quick dive straight into the hole. But the decision was right.
And it worked. The defense held, Goff got the ball back, and Jake Bates won it.
That isn't coaching malpractice. It's a coach who trusts his defense and does the math under pressure.

If you punt this ball and Green Bay scores, the game is over because they'll bleed the clock out. If you fail and Green Bay scores (or hilariously misses another short FG), you get it back with time. Lions got it back with 3 mins left. And if you get it, you bleed the clock
The #Lions just went for it on 4th-and-1 from their own 24 in a tie game.
It didn't work.
I don't know, man.

Michigan's defense has held all 7 opponents to 20 points or fewer. Since 2014, FBS teams that do that win 87% of the time.
Michigan is 4-3.
Jason Beck has to go. Now. Here's the data. 🧵
His firing would be a good adjustment
#Michigan OC Jason Beck was all smiles before the game... wonder what adjustments he looks to make coming out of halftime?

Watching Michigan with two different quarterbacks, it's hard not to conclude that Michigan's offensive problems are more OC Jason Beck than it was Bryce Underwood or is Tommy Carr.

When CJ Carr goes to watch his brother Tommy Carr play, it’s a great story. But when a friend of mine goes to watch my son Ryan Day play, Pete Thamel throws a fit.
