Instead of inventing a comforting dogma (we already know the truth) or embracing nihilism (there is no truth), a society should pursue the narrow path between them for a morally explorative world where views that perform better are more likely to spread
Nihilism, like any other moral theory, should be considered too premature to win the day.
An epistemically mature society must not succumb to moral aimlessness, but must instead be devoted to the moral pursuit of expanding human knowledge.

Capitalist innovation is a modern miracle that makes even the most precious commodities available to the masses β SO LONG AS IT IS PERMITTED TO FUNCTION.
Deregulate housing, healthcare and education, and capitalism will take care of the rest.

An incomprensibile ~160 pages proof generated by AI does not displace mathematicians on inventing new math, as well as an slope AI doesnβt displace engineers, unless merely making proofs or coding is all you do
10 remarks on AI and math that can be true all at once:
1. The recent progress is stunning and exciting.
2. The Quasi-Riemann Hypothesis is arguably Fields-medal level.
3. Mathematics is being transformed and there is no way back.
4. OpenAI doesn't give a fuck about the future of mathematics.
5. Half-baked unreadable preprints claiming major results can effectively stall mathematical progress.
6. Some mathematicians are responding with naive, overly defensive comments.
7. The social-media wankers framing this as "OpenAI tramples gatekeeping" have no experience of mathematical research.
8. The product of mathematics is clarity and understanding. Not theorems, by themselves.
9. Mathematics is a critical infrastructure of human cognition. The human need for understanding isn't obsolete and it can't be offloaded to machines.
10. We haven't "solved" mathematics and we won't get there before the Sun burns out.

Optogenetics - activating specific neurons using light-sensitive proteins - wins the Nobel!
Here's a great demonstration:
Shining a light on this mouse activates the very specific subset of neurons that makes it shake (like a wet dog) to dry off.

Celebrating 114 years of the legendary Italian filmmaker, Michelangelo Antonioni- one of those very few filmmakers whose movies people either completely hate or unconditionally love. I belong to the latter category. I just hope more people join the club. Sadly, Orson Welles & Ingmar Bergman wouldn't approve of this.
