ok hear me out.
the world is nested.
1. your brain sits inside you,
2. you, a person inside a team,
3. the team inside a company,
4. the company inside an industry,
5. the industry inside a nation.
every level
- is made of the one inside it.
- runs the same physics.
- thinks at its own speed.
- has energy, resources, information, and legitimacy flows.
things go wrong the same way at every level:
1. one part grows at the expense of the whole,
2. or coordination failure causes the structure to crumble, eg:
3. addiction in a brain,
4. cancer in a body,
5. monopoly in an industry,
6. regulatory capture in a nation.
the default answer is to stop the collapse by caging the coordination failure - creating surveillance, control, lock down.
that's dystopia.
this is how we get authoritarianism.
but there's a third path: decentralized coordination. every level resourced + woven together, every part still free.
this is the design problem for the 21st century.
and it starts with seeing the whole picture. "a problem well-stated is a problem half-solved" - Charles Kettering

16/ @ensdomains ecosystem builders launched ENS8004, a web app that converts an ENS name into an onchain AI agent other applications can find and verify.
17/ @OctantApp introduced properQF in Epoch 12, integrating quadratic funding into the funding round.
18/ @AragonProject launched onchain profiles, making governance participants readable across forums by resolving ENS names, avatars, bios, websites, and social links from Ethereum mainnet.
19/ The Ethereum Community Hub network expanded to Lisbon, hosted at the @gnosisDAO office.
20/ @SuccinctLabs introduced data confidentiality to OP Succinct, enabling institutions to keep transactions confidential while settling to Ethereum.
21/ @HardhatHQ 3 became stable, bringing Solidity tests, multichain support, a Rust-powered runtime, a revamped build system, and Hardhat Ignition for deployments.
22/ The inaugural @ethconf, in NYC, brought together thousands of founders, industry leaders, and builders to discuss building on top of Ethereum.
23/ @EthPrague brought Ethereum builders together in Prague to discuss protocol development, privacy, culture, and long- term societal impact.
24/ @ETHGlobal introduced a new format where, for the first time at an ETHGlobal hackathon, projects do not have to begin from zero.
More Americans say they would rather live next to a nuclear power plant than a data center.
188 opposition groups across 40 states.
$64 billion in projects blocked or delayed.
A moratorium bill sitting on Governor Hochul's desk right now.
The coverage says these communities fear noise and water bills – but what they're actually fighting is critical infra being built around them faster than they can hold a single hearing.
Private capital builds first.
Adoption becomes default.
Default becomes dependence.
By the time the community even gets a chance to vote, the vote's already been rendered ceremonial.
But the people are still packing these town halls because they understand exactly what's being decided without them.
Saying no is the first act of agency.

Tectonic Shifts are happening in Ethereum Public Goods Funding.
2025-2027 will look way different than 2022-2024!
things that are changing:
- roadmap updates in the Ethereum ecosystem
- changes at the EF
- new funding sources, old funding sources drying up
- new AI tech
- new ZK tech
- stablecoin adoption
- ethereum localism
- L2s
- onchain social
- regulatory landscape, geopolitics ongoing evolution
- PGF innovations like deep funding, deep gov, kickstarter protocol coming online...
- as well as octant 2.0, gitcoin 3.0, evolutions at giveth, optimism, drips, cult, darkfi, protocol guild, and so on...
- many more frontier innovations in mechanism design (too many to note)
- what'd i miss?
i am writing an essay to summarize the changes and hyperstition how we all work together to export more PGF to ethereum + then to the world.
some prompts for yall:
1. what new innovative stuff are you excited about and why?
2. who's doing the coolest stuff in the frontier? at scale? what's special about them?
3. how to changes in the world/AI/ZK influence ethereum PGF?
4. how do we all work together on strengthening each other?
the best takes get featured in my piece :)

Today, I’m sharing one of the most difficult decisions we’ve had to make since the inception of Gitcoin.
We’ve made the call to wind down Grants Lab, the primary software development unit behind Gitcoin, and are parting ways with several deeply talented and mission-aligned team members. We've already spoken 1:1 with everyone whose employment was affected.
Why we made this decision
Over the past year, the ecosystem around us has shifted. The landscape for funding public goods is evolving. L2 ecosystems are maturing, new coordination primitives are emerging, and many new players are entering the space. At the same time, key team members who helped define Grants Lab’s culture and direction have moved on, and we’ve been navigating how to fill those shoes while evolving our roadmap.
Perhaps most importantly, we’ve come to terms with the fact that Grants Lab, in its current form, doesn’t yet have a clear, sustainable path to profitability. While the Gitcoin ecosystem continues to thrive through Gitcoin Passport (now @HumnPassport ), the Gitcoin Grants Program, KERNEL, Public Works, and Allo Capital, the financial overhead of Grants Lab has outpaced its financial runway in the current environment.
How we made this decision.
This decision was made in consultation with the top stewards of Gitcoin and lead of Grants lab - and from the perspective of Gitcoin Governance, is for Grants Lab to not submit another budget to Gitcoin’s governance for H2 2025. Instead, Grants Lab will spend the remainder of the H1 funds to provide severance to all whose employment is affected.
How we’re supporting departing teammates
We’re doing our best to handle these transitions with the care they deserve. While there are some situations handled case by case basis, heres a baseline what we’re providing to affected employees:
1. Severance: 1 month salary + [1 month of severance for each 1 year served]
2. Tokens: All tokens will vest through the date of termination + severance.
3. Career Support:
- We’ve created an opt-in list of impacted employees to share with other Web3 orgs and hiring DAOs.
- Members of the leadership team are offering personalized references.
Moving forward
The Gitcoin mission hasn’t changed: to fund what matters.
We're not retreating—we're refocusing. Gitcoin will continue, but with a leaner team aligned around a more focused Gitcoin Grants program and managing it’s portfolio of assets. And Gitcoin remains a vibrant, resilient community with many years of runway, and which is more than any one team or product.
To everyone who contributed their time, energy, and heart to Grants Lab—thank you. You’ve advanced the frontier of public goods funding. And you’ve left your fingerprints on a better future.
To Grants Lab customers who are affected by the wind down - Grants Stack will no longer be maintained as of May 31st 2025 and the deployed instance of Grants Stack that Grants Lab maintains will be wound down on May 31st 2025. We’re working to gracefully wind down Grants Stack usage and Grants Lab partnership relationships and/or to gracefully transition them to other organizations and who can support them. Dm if you have questions.
To the broader Gitcoin ecosystem - keep an eye on the gov forum for updates on the future and especially for GG24, which is still coming soon. We’ll share more with the Gitcoin community in the days ahead. My DMs are open if anyone wants to talk, and I’ll be keeping an eye on the gov forum to answer any questions.
