"A very distinctive memory I have of right after 9/11, I was a young man in high school," said Vance. "I remember that sense of pride, you remember that? That all of us had, Democrat, Republican, and Independent in our country. And I remember driving to a local gas station to wait hours in line for gasoline... "That was now, of course, more expensive because of a region of the world made up of countries of names that I couldn't even pronounce," he said. The joke there, folks, is that Arabic names are alien sounding and impossible to pronounce for a simple country boy like James David Vance. Who exactly finds this kind of provincial, bigoted material appealing? The infuriating irony, of course, is that while Vance can't "pronounce" Arabic names, he has absolutely no problem dropping bombs on Arabs in Gaza. This is the deal with the MAGA Devil that Vance has made. He wants to be the leader of a party that is now unashamedly white nationalist, but his entire family is Indian-American. His wife's name used to be Usha Chilukuri. One of his sons is named Vivek. Vance is so power-hungry that he is actively creating a world that is more hostile to his own flesh and blood. To point out the incredibly obvious, if Republicans do carry these elections (which they won't) those "Trump Dividends" will never materialize, just like every other monetary promise he's made in the past. The only people who make money under this President are him, his family, and his cronies. Working class Americans get shafted at every turn. "You could even come to Mar-a-Lago. I said it the other night. You'll be my guest at Mar-a-Lago. The problem is that for $5,000 the most you'll be able to buy is a hamburger and maybe a small dessert," he added, chuckling. Obviously, a hamburger and small dessert don't cost $5,000 at Mar-a-Lago but Trump's point was clear. The braying, mindless MAGA idiots who file into arenas to hear him speak are of a lower class and can't afford to dine with him. This disdain for his supporters is a recurring theme in Trump's rhetoric. He hates these people because they're crude, stupid, and easily manipulated, which is ironically the exact reason that they support him. At this point, Trump could not possibly make it any clearer that he doesn't care about our collective financial suffering. He created this crisis with his disastrous Iran War, and now he's up on stage rubbing it in our faces and admitting that he doesn't mind high gas prices. CNN Brasil reported he left with his wife and two daughters in the early hours of the morning. Allies told Folha de S.Paulo the escape was “organized and enabled by a lawyer close to the Bolsonaro clan.” The route was reportedly cinematic. A “burn book” appears in the film “Mean Girls” not “The Devil Wears Prada.” And of course, Guilfoyle was not some casual associate of the Trump family. She was at the center of their inside circle, having dated Donald Trump Jr. for years before getting engaged to him. She was there for private conversations that nobody else was ever supposed to hear. Who knows what crimes she oveheard? “Kimberly knows everything. She was way inside that family and political operation for years,” one insider said. “Keeping Kimberly happy keeps Kimberly quiet,” stated another. BREAKING: The Catholic Archbishop of the U.S. military enrages MAGA by announcing that Catholic soldiers must not take part in the public execution of Nidal Hasan. Pete Hegseth is about to blow a gasket... “In addition to supporting and subscribing to the statement by my brothers the Bishops of Texas, it is my duty to express my disapproval of what is proposed regarding the execution of the terrorist Hasan in the Archdiocese entrusted to my spiritual care to be done by those for whose salvation I have been constituted as the Archbishop for the Military Services, USA," stated Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who is in charge of Catholic pastoral services for the U.S. military. He was referring to a statement put out by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops condemning Hegseth's plan to livestream Hasan's execution because it would "make a spectacle of death" and fail to achieve "true justice." Broglio was no doubt drawing attention to the Texas bishops' statement specifically because Hasan committed his mass shooting at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. While we have absolutely zero sympathy for Hasan, we also adamantly oppose MAGA's efforts to turn us into an even more bloodthirsty nation where public killings are broadcast for the entertainment of the masses. We are the United States of America, not ancient Rome. “First of all, I renew my expression of heartfelt sympathy to the families and friends of those who died in the attack at Fort Hood," Broglio continued. "It was an attack that disregarded the dignity of the human person. I had the sad duty of presiding and preaching at the funeral of Michael Grant Cahill, the only civilian killed in that attack." “Secondly, I repeat the opposition of the Catholic Church to capital punishment.  The Catechism was already clear and Pope Francis made it even clearer.  The dignity of the human person is again at stake." “Thirdly, do we really want to imitate the terrorists of this world and make a public spectacle of barbarically killing our adversaries?  The crime committed by Nidal Malik Hasan was heinous, but does exposing the public to his execution serve any purpose?  Has the potential moral injury, which the members of the firing squad might experience, been considered?  Will the exposure of a live-stream to the young and impressionable during the 250th anniversary year of our independence be able to be repaired?"  "The US military generally enjoys a good reputation in the world," he continued. "Is there really a value to throwing them in the same boat with terrorists by broadcasting the image of the execution of a man in a wheel chair to the whole world? Regardless of one's thinking about the Catholic Church's teachings on other issues, we wholeheartedly agree with their staunch opposition to the death penalty and particularly public executions. Hegseth and Trump want to normalize this kind of brutality — likely setting the stage for even more heinous displays of fascist violence — and at the same time they know that it's red meat for their mindless, jabbering base who will delight in watching a Muslim be killed on television. This is hardly the first time Leo's understanding of Christianity has collided with the Trump administration's. Earlier this year, after Hegseth urged Americans to pray for military victory in the Middle East, Leo warned that the Christian mission has too often been “distorted by a desire for domination, entirely foreign to the way of Jesus Christ.” Trump accordingly attacked the pope as “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for foreign policy.” Now the contrast could hardly be more vivid: The head of the Catholic Church is speaking about mercy, human dignity, and the possibility of redemption, while the man running America's military is promoting an execution as something the public should be able to watch, like the ISIS videos we used to watch in horror. She was replying to a post from Republican Amanda Carpenter, a former senior communications advisor and speechwriter for Ted Cruz— "Trump & Hegseth aren't just proposing to livestream an execution for people who want to watch," wrote Carpenter. "They're proposing to broadcast a man being shot to death, even if deserved by our system, and even if you agree with this version of the death penalty, knowing that the footage will be clipped, shared, and pushed into social media feeds. Including those of our children." "The gruesome image will be everywhere," she added. "Parents will have virtually no control over whether their kids see it. Once those images are released, there is no taking them back. Hope all the parents in the Trump Admin are cool with that." Both of these women are correct and Ben-Ghiat's observation is particularly disturbing. The public execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan worries us not because we have some deep well of sympathy for a man who killed 13 people and injured 34 others, but because of what it will do to our nation. Hegseth and Trump want us to grow used to death as public spectacle and once that happens, who can say what will come next? Is it really so farfetched to think that they might push for executing political enemies in the not-so-distant future? Trump has already displayed a lawless willingness to weaponize and politicize the Justice Department. Sham prosecutions could lead to sham convictions which could lead to real executions.
