My deep anger is reserved for every politician in the last three years who countenances mass death, genocide, and the targeting of children, humanitarian workers, and journalists whose blood can be washed away with the language of "concern" as an action. nitter.cf/ghida_fakhry/status/20…
The UK government says it is ‘deeply troubled.’ What threshold must be crossed before Yvette Cooper moves from ‘concern’ to actually condemning the killing of civilians, destruction of neighborhoods, and violations of international law?

What is now Ho Chi Minh City was then Saigon, the capital of U.S.-backed South Vietnam. Thus, bombing it would not have “won the Vietnam War in a week” — except perhaps for the VietCong.
Trump: I could have won the Vietnam War in a week. They kept bombing forests for years instead of going after Ho Chi Minh City.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Ho Chi Minh City was called Saigon during the Vietnam War and was the capital of US-allied South Vietnam; North Vietnam's capital was Hanoi. britannica.com/place/Ho-Chi-M… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fall_of_S… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ho_Chi_Mi…

If you offend the only liberal democracy in the Middle East you lose your liberal rights in your own country. Don't ask why - that's just the way it is.

USA’s democracy & voting defender @MarcEElias on how Trump’s attempts to rig the election are worse than he dreamed. Democrats have organized 15,000+ lawyers to deal with the worst Trump’s DOJ “lawyers” will try to do, but this is a scary time. Details: newsletters.democracydocket.…

Every time an African country elects a government that tries to keep more of its own resources, Western media discovers a "democracy deficit." Every time an Asian nation builds technology that competes with Western products, Western governments discover a "security threat." Every time a Latin American country charts an economic path outside the Washington Consensus, Western financial institutions discover a "stability risk." The pattern is precise and it has been precise for two centuries. The West is not afraid of authoritarian governments. It has funded dozens of them. The West is not afraid of economic mismanagement. It has imposed structural adjustment programs that produced exactly that. What produces the alarm, the specific, urgent, editorial-board-meeting alarm, is independence. A poor country making its own choices with its own resources for its own people without asking permission. That is the danger. That has always been the danger. Everything else is the vocabulary chosen to describe it in ways that don’t require honesty.

Insomniac artist Léon Spilliaert wandered Ostend at night, finding in its empty streets and endless beaches the exterior equivalent of his inner isolation. At school, he studied Nietzsche and Schopenhauer and began to read the claustrophobic stories of Edgar Allan Poe.

Q: If the administration has declared on waste and fraud, could you explain the $420 million overpayment for a prison in Appleton, MN, when they company offered it to the state for $75m? BESSENT: I don't know anything about that. That's a waste of our time.

.@the_andrey_x and I were charged with assault, along with five other offenses. After being kept up all night and interrogated for seven hours, we finally saw a judge. He watched the footage and concluded it was clearly a one-sided attack and that we were the victims. His response was to ban us from the West Bank for two months, let the police keep my phone, and bring no charges against the settlers he had just watched attack us.
Hi, I'm free. Beat up but fine. Police stole my phone. Settlers punched me in the face several times, likely broke @AdeleShoko's wrist and gave @the_andrey_x a concussion. They threatened to shoot us with an assault rifle over and over. Will tell the full story later, but for now, I just want to be clear about what happened. We witnessed two settlers locking a military gate in Umm al-Khair, blocking the only way to more than twenty Palestinian communities: trapping families inside, preventing students from reaching school and workers from their jobs, blocking delivery of food and access to ambulances, etc. It's a crime that the military has this ability at all--but last night, we discovered that random settler terrorists also have the key. We confronted them and began asking questions on camera, and they nearly murdered us for it. When the police finally arrived, they arrested Andrey and me and charged us with assault. The gate is still locked.

The DOJ has an active prosecutorial investigation of the Democratic candidate and the so-called spoiler candidate in Alaska. I saw this image of the actual voting form today, and i'm genuinely mystified how this is happening. There is no ambiguity of the candidates identity.

THIS. This was the tell. As much as she thinks God grants Israel its supremacy, and her project for 'Greater Israel', she turns on a dime and reveals what everyone knows, it's the political will (or supplicancy) needed to make it happen. @Byoussef youtu.be/Lq3U1EHwPuw?t=2682
