LIFE UPDATE 🎆 The places this amazing game takes us never cease to amaze. When my friend Vic Williams and I packed up GolfGetaways two decades ago, I never could have dreamed I’d someday be working for so many of my favorite destinations on the planet — and with such great people along the way.
But here we are once again.
I’m fortunate to announce a new partnership with the team at @GambleSands, working alongside longtime friend Robert Thompson (@Going4theGreen) and his crew from Matchplay Golf Marketing to help supercharge the Gamble Sands rocketship 🚀 in Washington as they unveil David McLay Kidd’s newest creation next summer.
Here’s a big thanks to everyone who helped make this happen.
I’ll be working behind the scenes and socials — and occasionally behind a camera — at Gamble Sands much in the same ways I contribute at Tobacco Road and with my friends from GolfPackagePros.
Looking forward to the challenge as we continue spotlighting unforgettable, fun golf courses, resorts and adventures across America.

We’ll be rolling out even more features over the next few months, but the site already highlights hole-by-hole video from @jeffkmarsh + you can watch Up River’s film on the philosophy of Tobacco Road and interview with founder Mark Stewart.

I’ve never seen Lemonheads as a golf snack. “For the golfer who wants to pucker all the time, not just over big putts.” 😭
Agronomy issues at public golf courses have never bothered me. Growing grass is hard. But I’ll never understand course operators who can’t tend to the basics like marking yardages.

Never realized so many golfers think they’re purists. I play most of my golf with 100-year-old hickories, and I’ve had more fun on The Matchbox the past couple days than I’ve had in a long time.

Saw some craziness yesterday on The Matchbox @TobaccoRoadGolf. Austin Tennant, a content-creating caddie at Pinehurst, aced the 11th hole TWICE in back-to-back rounds. Mayhem ensued.
