Glad to see those loans from the first bailout in 2010 being repaid. Greece has gone a long way since then
The ESM and EFSF agreed today to waive the mandatory repayment obligation concerning ESM/EFSF loans to Greece, allowing an additional early repayment of Greek Loan Facility (GLF) loans.
The ESM also approved the use of funds from a dedicated cash buffer account, created at the end of the adjustment programme, to partially carry out this prepayment. Following the transaction, the cash buffer account will be fully depleted.
This marks Greece’s fifth early repayment of GLF loans, which consisted of bilateral loans from 14 euro area countries. They were part of the first financial support programme for Greece, agreed in May 2010, prior to the creation of the EFSF and ESM.
